What You Can and Can't Find When Grocery Shopping

United States
March 27, 2020 1:38pm CST
When it comes to groceries and what's available it can be like playing a game. Today we decided to make our list and have it delivered. Unfortunately the deliveries are booked solid for two weeks. Next choice is pick-up. Earliest is Wednesday between 4pm and 5pm so we grabbed it. By Wednesday who knows what will be as but we're willing to take our chances. Didn't even try for toilet paper, sanitizer or cleaning supplies. ( thankfully we have enough) I was surprised that there are no frozen vegetables. Everything said out of stock. Are you finding it hard getting certain items?

Flour seems to be the biggie here, I paid a fortune for organic flour last week.

When I went a couple of days ago, I found very little in the way of dairy products at the store I usually go to, but the other store had them. That is the thing you usually have to go to mulitiple stores to get what you want.

@Marilynda1225 Good idea! i should check and see if anything i posted in our local FB pages. I know one day people were posting about when the trucks came in, however the local FL says they don't have info about when the trucks will come in, umm I am sure they know more than they are saying. One day I called about the meat and they told me precisely when the truck was arriving.

For now I'm relying on a neighborhood Facebook page where people are posting which stores have what. It really saves running from store to store

I buy our tissues in a package of 6 boxes, and I have not been able to get them, until today. So now I am stocked back up again. I was not able to pick up any of the liquid hand soap that we use, so I've told my hubby that we need to consider buying a touchless dispenser since there seems to be plenty of that soap refill on the market. I needed some scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner, and I couldn't get it last week, but they had it this week. I can't go without that stuff.

@Marilynda1225 All we really need to find is some liquid soap, and then get that shipment to arrive of masks and we will be laughing.

We shop in bulk every month or so so we had a good supply on things before the stores became limited. I love scrubbing bubbles too Our stores are hit or miss and you never know what you find today you might not find tomorrow Glad you're all set for awhile.

I haven't had any trouble. Except I usually buy things that we use a lot in large Quantities whenever we have extra money so we usually have more than enough. Not hoarding just extra in case something like this happens.

We do the same. Once a month or so we make a trip to Sam's Club and buy in bulk. So I already had stuff on hand when stores became limited on things.

@Marilynda1225 like well go to dollar tree after were done at the mud park and probably stuck up on orange cleaner, bleach and wipes. But we won't go crazy. Everytime that we go anywhere we will get a few.

I think that is happening all over there are just things that are not easily available. Like toilet paper, tissues, hand sanitizer, those kind of things are short all over.

I have always been able to get toilet paper, but only periodically have I been able to find meat. What I never have been able to get is sanitizing wipes. Thankfully, I can use other cleaning supplies I already have.

Yep. Same here on finding certain items. I have had difficulty buying pork, eggs, cottage cheese, frozen vegetables, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies among other items. I have joked more than once that we'll know we're getting closer to being in the clear when we see full shelves again.

The WalMarts here have totally stopped pick up, you have to go into the store and shop yourself. It’s not out of wanting to protect their workers, they make more $ that way because people buy things they didn’t intend to. So they’d rather have 100’s of people come through their store with possible contagion than possibly lose a few dollars.

I work at a store and when one thing is purchased a lot they seem to move on to something else. We're even out of pods for dishwashers and have been for a week or more. We are getting more toilet paper in now and meat so we'll see whether it gets better or worse.

The lack of frozen vegetables doesn't surprise me too much. Frozen foods went out almost as quickly as the canned here, and they haven't been getting enough to keep them in stock for very long. Today was the first time in a few weeks that I've seen the frozen aisle so well stocked. The thing that we've had the most trouble with getting has been fresh meats. It seemed like nobody had anything in stock for the past few weeks. It was good to see that both Walmart and Fry's had a good portion of their meat cases stocked today. A lot of stuff is still picked over, including the paper goods, but it's a lot more normal than it has been for a while. I think the only thing I'm technically having trouble locating is the liquid hand soap we use, but I bought several bottles right before the shelves got cleared out so we don't actually need them yet. I try to keep a few extras on hand because my kids like playing with the bubbles from them a little too much sometimes.
