I mentioned that today I will go to the elderly people with brochures about the stores that offer home delivery and to give them documents which are necessary if they really need to get out. People over 65 can only go out between 11 AM and 1 PM. But they need the documents for that, otherwise they will be fined.
I was given a mask and gloves and I went to 18 different houses. Some of them don't have doorbells and even if I shouted, nobody answered. I put the documents in the mailboxes.
Some elderly were very scared and they cried that they don't know how much long they can resist.
It was difficult to see them suffering, but I really cannot do anything about it.
I am just hoping that I helped them a bit and that things will get better, soon.
How was your day?

@marguicha That is why my colleague and I have written and won a European project to arrange a building for elderly to gather and organize different activities. Unfortunately, because of the virus, it will not be done at the deadline written in the project.

It was not completely voluntary. But I did it, as I know that elderly people are scared and need consolation and advice.

I really hope I was able to bring something positive in their day. But they would need it daily.

@rappeter13 Yes but you probably helped them smile, and maybe the only smile they got today.

It looked like hard work for you, not the physical exertion but the effect of seeing those poor elderly people. For a consolation, at least you have a sense of accomplishment.

I walked more than 5 km, so it was a bit of physical activity, too. I really hope that I managed to calm some of them down a bit. Seeing old people crying is hard.

@Alexandoy Yes, it is difficult to see people suffer. Personally, I don't really see how I could help them.

@rappeter13 oh, 5 kilometers is no joke. You are right with the pathetic scene of elderly people crying. There was a time that I was going to a nursing home and I try to bring joy to the elders there by giving them treats. I always have a head ache when I leave. The pain is too much.

@DianneN If I have to, yes. But on my own, probably not. Maybe after the epidemic will be over, and to try to bring joy to elderly people.

It is scary for many people, especially the elderly one. It is also hard to make some of them understand basic things.

It is, but for elderly people who cannot use technology, who are alone is even harder.

What you did was very noble. The elderly are the most affected by this.

They are not understanding very well what is happening. A men told me that it was easier in the war, because they knew where the enemy comes from and what it looks like. But now, we don't see the enemy and it could be everywhere.

@rappeter13 I can understand the old people saying this - that you once knew who the enemy was.
