Steaming yams

When I used to steam yams, I would peel them first and then steam them. As raw yams are sticky, they're hard to peel, and the sticky stuff makes my hands itchy every time I peel them. Today, I just wash it and steam it with the skin, and then I peel it when I eat it. I find the skin of the cooked yam is easy to remove. Do you eat steamed yams? Do you peel the raw yam or the cooked yam?

Our yams look so different! I don’t peel ours. I bake them and eat them with the skin.

It makes sense that it is easier to peel when steamed.

Boiled ones are easier to peel. Applying few drops if lemon juice with coconut oil/ mustard oil on hands helps with itching. I always apply it before dealing with yams.

I seldom eat yams. Occasionally my mom will use it to make the soup. I am not sure how my mom deal with the yams. But peeling the skin is necessary. Wearing the gloves will be fine

Yam is the staple food in some parts of Africa where I had been for some time. We don't see them so much in our country. In Africa they boil them with skin on, then peel it after boiling and pound them. Pounded yam they eat with some stew.

The sweet potato is like the picture above. Ripe yams are a bit sweet and taste a bit like sweet potatoes.
