My grandfather loved the Wisconsin River. Most of the slides he left my father (and by extension me) are of somewhere on that river.
This picture was taken near Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin but not near the Dells themselves.
I have been to some of the places my grandfather loved, but not all of them.
Do you have a favorite place your grandparents used to take you to?

After my 3rd birthday we moved overseas then to a base that was thousand of miles away from my grand parents. Back in the 50s and 60s it wasn't as easy to get the money to fly out to visit with them and traveling by car would have been way too time consuming given that a lot of areas didn't have interstates like they do these days @DocAndersen

@rebelann we moved out of the country in the early 70s - we all stayed overseas (my dad came back once when his father was diagnosed with stage four cancer) i know the pain.
Where was your dad stationed?

@DocAndersen They had to do that years ago. Some got married in secret so both could keep working.

@DocAndersen Good for your granddad. He should have insisted she have her job back but that would have been going a bit far I guess.

i think mine were the same way. My mother's mother got married, and was forced to stop working.

My grandmother took me to NYC by train when I was 5 years old and to see the Rockettes.
The most favorite place she took me was to her house on the beach and out to fancy expensive restaurants with white linen tablecloths.
My grandfather was divorced from her, be we spent many wonderful vacations at his house on a river in St. Augustine, FL.

@DocAndersen The ice cream stands out in my mind. We also made homemade ice cream often.

@CarolDM my grandfather owned the town grocery store, but started out as a butcher. He always had the best steaks ever!

it really is a cool place. We used to hit Baskin Robbins! Or Arbor Dells. It was near my grandparent's house, and they made their ice cream at the shop!
