Why I think saying " kill the virus " might be wrong

I often read or hear people say " kill the virus " I think it's erroneous, then you may ask "why " it's erroneous because a virus is not a living thing from a biological or should I say microbiological standpoint. to be living you must meet the ff.criteria:
- all living things are made up of cells which the virus is not, it's just like a protein sack with genetic material inside
- living things reproduce sexually or asexually a virus just takes over your cells like an alien, hijack it to produce millions of virus similar to itself genetically.
- living things produce their own energy being made up of cells they have a mitochondria, viruses will use your energy , it cannot produce its own
-Living things will respond to stimuli be it a single cell, stimuli like hot , cold, danger etc.. a virus does not
Viruses do exhibit some qualities of living things but having some does not make it living. Some scientists say it's an in-between living and none living, in-between does not make it a living.
I think saying " destroy the virus" is more accurate than saying " kill the virus" What do you think? What's you're opinion. Are there other ways to describe getting rid of it?
I hope we all learned something new today boys and girls

This was what most of scientists were thinking 10 years ago, but since giant viruses with complex DNA were found the main opinion is that a virus is a living creature, at least when it meets a cell activating it. The rest of the time a virus is like a seed. Is a seed living or not ?
And also interesting, the guy who discovered the first giant virus, called "mimivirus" is the source of Trump's knowledge about chloroquine to KILL THE VIRUS, a French medicine professor called Didier Raoult.

@louievill I tend to believe that anything with a complex DNA is a living creature. And a virus needs to be rather smart to propagate, if it kills too quickly, it will die without being able to multiply. Kind of parasitic creature.
Raoult is world #1 on expertscape for communicable diseases, but the guy is strange and has many enemies, I think his treatment will be adopted everywhere before being adopted in France.

@louievill Like one of my bosses was telling "Ignorance can be filled, but stupidity is a full tank, nothing can be done." I am tempted to learn tagalog, I do not understand how this language works but I have the feeling that it is not very hard. Maybe I am wrong.

Yes I had done some readings on the mimivirus and they do exhibit "some" characteristics of a living organism and are really the basis for calling viruses " in-betweens" but again if I would make a rebuttal, having some might not make it qualified to be considered living, in-betweens would most likely be classified as a class of it's own.
I just graduated my 4 year course when they started experimenting on interferon, I also often heard it during my short stint in pharmaceuticals. Never heard much about it and with all the tech we have now, I never bothered to search perhaps later. Trump is a businessman, he's most probably very good in getting other people's ideas and capitalize on it for his personal gain and advantage. I have great admiration for French, German and to some degree Swiss pharmaceutical research and developement.

@yoalldudes that's how they behave , biologically and tech wise. I would liken parasites to malware, trojans and adwares

@louievill Yes similar to the Seto virus that infected all my work files caused so much trouble last year.

It was just an observation but I had known for a long time , studied and was taught that a virus is not a living thing, some consider it a transition from a non-living to a living.

@porwest knowing our enemy is a big advantage, before this virus became so popular some people in my country were taking antibiotics for a viral infection.
People fall for all kinds of crap on remedies on face book thinking that it would " kill" the virus not understanding that they were partly right because those foods help the immune system to rid itself of the virus. We don't need to be scientists although it would be much better if we are

, one of the best way to get rid of something is to understand what it is and how exactly a certain thing functions or what mechanisms drives it.

Could be, stopping is more of stopping the spread but good enough, um....finishing? Yeah similar to ending but we need to know the starting first NCOVID-19 is the name given by WHO when referring to the virus in public

for me, the simplest definition of a virus is: it is in the environment, it is circulating in the air, and it can cause sickness when a person has lowered immune system. just like the flu virus, it should go in a specific time table.
but covid19 is a new and novel virus that was discovered and there is no known cure or treatment yet.
