Heartbroken Yet Again.

When the announcement came, I guess we weren't all that surprised. After all, COVID-19 is taking young and healthy people...so what chance did a guy in his 70s with half a lung missing have? Still, it leaves me heartbroken yet again. John Prine lost his battle against COVID-19 today (4/7). For a guy who never had a top 40 hit, John Prine was an absolute legend. That comes from the era when the singer/songwriter could become well-known without the top 40. With his first album, Prine established himself as a songwriter's songwriter. Prine was a man who could break your heart ("Sam Stone") and then make you fall down laughing ("Dear Abby"). He turned heads the way he could turn a phrase in a song ("I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve" in "Spanish Pipedream"). I've been a fan of Prine's since the 70s. And, while this was a strong possibility given his health (he was a two-time cancer survivor, including losing part of a lung to cancer in the 2010s), it hurts like all get-out. John Prine was 73. Maybe his best-known song:

Heh. Paradise is my signature song at bluegrass jams (and gigs). Why? Because I know the words inside out and there are massive harmony (and lead) opportunities. I still cant listen to "Summer's End" without crying.

@FourWalls There were three "natural passings" lately: Al Kaline, James Drury and Honor Blackman.
