Safeway update: I could not buy eggs today. What is your grocery store experience right now?

I have been going to the grocery store about twice a week. If the line at Trader Joe's is too long, I will go to Safeway, which is not requiring its customers to stand in front of the store to get in.
Today, at Safeway, I was able to buy milk, bacon, hot dogs, fresh vegetables, soup, and my favorite wine. But I was not able to get eggs. They were all gone.
I did not even try to buy toilet paper or paper towel. They are long gone.
How have your recent grocery store excursions been? Are you worried about starving to death?

I had plenty of eggs on hand when the shutdown started. I like to get them at Aldi. We are on our last dozen. I have most anything I want, now that I finally got butter at a decent price.

@GardenGerty I wonder if they still have it. I'm not a member.

Trader Joe's is insane for some reason. It's hit or miss these days.

What do you mean by insane? Haven't gone there in weeks. It was okay when I was there last time.

Our pantry, refrigerator and freezer are stocked; so I don't think we'll starve. My husband is at Walmart right now trying to score the things that the store is always out of. Maybe he went early enough and will have success. We shall see!

@LindaOHio I'm going to see if I can find some Ramen noodles next time I go to the store.

@TheHorse He scored two 3-packs of Kleenex, wet wipes...the toilet paper was in the back; and they hadn't stocked it yet; so no tp. :-( They are still out of Ramen noodles, most soups, etc. They had plenty of paper towels now; but we are stocked up with them.

Not worried about starving. I will find SOMETHING to eat. Heck, if push comes to shove there are plenty of squirrels running around in my yard. I'll start eating THEM if I have to. Still cannot, for the life of me, understand the toilet paper thing. But it is what it is. I have not been to a store in two weeks so I have no idea what it looks like out there. I think I will need to go this weekend though. Depending on what I find I will probably post about it.

@JohnRoberts Savoring the thought right now. Let's invent a recipe. Perhaps we'll become famous. I'm thinking small potatoes. Carrots. At least a bit of onion. Just a hint of garlic to counter the gaminess. Pepper. I suggest serving it with white rice, so the flavour doesn't become too complex. Or perhaps wild rice, which goes well with deer. What am I missing? I'm oiling up my .22.

So far supplies have been maintained. A few things here and there are not available. Yet there is no panic.
I am a bit surprised as to why these things are not that we managed in US, to whom many in India used to look as a great place to live.
May be the times have changed.
Yet US central government and state and local governments need to do more.
Are supplies less or things are not properly getting transported?

One has to do things differently in the tough times.

Thank heavens I did not have to go grocery shopping for a little bit. It is not a fun thing for me to do right now because of the virus and having to try and remember what to get and to keep my distance from people. We seem to have things here so do not have to worry.

I still have 2 quarts of eggs from a food service box (I think we calculated that it was around 3 gallons) of liquid eggs. I work in a grocery store kitchen (although I haven't been there in weeks because of the virus) and my manager sent several things home with me when I was last in. Since the store temporarily closed our hot bar and salad bar, we weren't making scrambled eggs or prepping cucumbers or such anymore, so he gave all of the kitchen employees things that we could use before they went bad.
If you were my neighbor, I'd leave you some on your porch.

@TheHorse If you're interested, you can download the app on your phone. It seems similar to GrubHub or Instacart, but strictly for 7-11.

I went shopping on Tuesday and got what I needed. I didn't need eggs, but my friend said the store was out of them. I know the large bottles of bleach were not on the shelves but I did manage to snag a 2.4L one.

I only shop once a week and so far except for toilet paper, I get all I want. I already got toilet paper from Costco about two weeks ago and have enough to last awhile.

@TheHorse Yes but I am sure they run out from time to time but seems they have a very aggressive re-stocking system.

J does the shopping as he doesn't want me anywhere near a store. However I have to be very exact as to what I put on the list. Still no toilet paper around here, and not very many paper towels. We're not going to starve, but mealtimes are going to be getting dull.

@TheHorse The lady at the register said that suddenly people were coming to the counter with five large jars at a time. There were no limits in place. I checked at the local Walmart, and their shelves were empty too. I looked into ordering it online, no one seems to have any available there either. I agree it's a weird thing to be out of.
