So I'm in the parking lot at Safeway yesterday when this dude goes "psst" to me and gestures me over. Without saying a word, he opens up the trunk of his 1975 Buick Electra 225 and shows me rolls of toilet paper, paper towel, high power shower heads, and Top Ramen.
Without looking at him, I ask, "How much for a six-pack of Chicken Top Ramen?" "Ten" is all he says." I slip him a ten and come home with a six-pack of my favorite Graduate School food. I have since had it twice, and is is delicious, filling, and easy to add random vegetables to.
Have you had any similar experiences recently?
Um, of course this is fiction, but I WAS delighted to score a 6-pack of Top Ramen at Safeway yesterday for something like $2.25. It's still as good (and soothing) as it was "back in the day."

I thought you were serious because it's IMPOSSIBLE to find any Ramen noodles. They are always out!

@TheHorse It is their nature. You could put a cover on your green beans.

@marguicha Hmm. Maybe I would have compassion toward them. But when they attack my corn and green beans...

@JudyEv Heh heh. I don't consider myself gullible, but I can be too trusting at times. That said, if someone tried to teach me some totally wrong cultural norm (like if Vanny told me always to bring a savory beef dish to a Hindu's house when you visit them) I might be naive enough to believe them.

It's small packets of noodles that boil up really quickly. Each packet comes with a tiny bit of flavoring, so you can make a quick meal out of a single Ramen packet. Graduate students are famous for "living on Top Ramen," as the packets cost only about 40 cents each.

@Hannihar I usually, do with butter even, but this year the only matzoh I could find was in "lifetime supply" sized packages. No Seder dinners this year. No nothing. I just lit a candle and called it good. Did you get a chance to celebrate?

I must admit your first version was more exciting. How was your Easter Sunday? Our son did get to come eat with us (catfish stew) and tonight we video visited with the rest of the kids.

Who knows, we may all be living on Top Ramen in the future.
