I got money

Yep, I just checked my bank account like I do every few days and guess what I just got today. Yep, the government deposited $1200 in my bank account. Now I don't know what anyone else's plan is with their money, if you get it. For me since I trust the government about as far as I can throw them. I will be holding on to my money and not spending it. I will see in a year from now how it will be taxed or if some how they are going to want that money back. I learned long ago there is nothing in life for free and I do not believe this is going to be free money. Some how some way the is going to be a cost to it. They say this is to stimulate the economy and help those in need. Well sorry, I don't trust you so I will not be putting that money into the economy. I will sit on it till I know for sure they are not going to want it back. Did you get money?

@Bensen32 Personally, were still fine. But other people around are getting hungry already since there's nothing they can do to earn a living. It's so sad.

That's great that you got your money. I did not apply for the $2,000 per month from our government. I am still working. I know that here they didn't ask many questions, and therefore I believe that people will be required to pay that money back, which is only right.

@Bensen32 From what I understand that is the same as here. People apply online, but they do have their social insurance number, so come tax time next year they will be held responsible if not before that. Its the same with the mortgage and loan deferrals, that debt isn't just going to disappear after 6 months.

@Juliaacv Yea, those mortgage and loan deferrals I know here they are basically just moving those to the end of the term, they are not writing those off. As for the money from the government they have not said you don't have to pay it back but then again they didn't say you didn't have to either so who knows.

I'm only guessing we will be taxed or have to pay it back, of course I didn't sign anything asking for it or agreeing to pay anything back so I'm not sure they can, but then again it is the government they can pretty much do what they want.

I don't know that is the bases that that they are giving if you made less than 100K last year and since I was under that amount I got the 1200. I have no idea where they came up with these numbers.

Not yet expecting it any day but none so far, We will likely pay our mortgage down with it. We will get $2400 for the two of us. We owe $9600 balance on our mortgage. Using it to pay off more mortgage will leave us with $7200. balance. We pay usually $790 a month so could have it paid off by next year this time, Then we own our home free and clear. We have 24 acres. Then money we use for mortgage we can put to other needs and uses.

Sounds like a good plan as long as you have money for other bills now. I know many are out of work and could use this towards their current bills. Either way as long as people use it wisely I guess that is good.

My hubby didn't get anything yet. I am assuming we're supposed to get 2400$ as we are married or am I wrong? Hubby was employed prior to the social distancing thing but I was not. Not sure if that makes a difference.

You should get it if you file taxes and made less than 100K last year. You also are to get $500 for each kid that you claim as a dependent, if that is your situation.

@Bensen32 I am glad you got the money but yeah, I am like you. I don't trust the government. Australia has done the same thing. I got some extra money not too long ago and I kept asking my dad if it really was safe and no stupid thing will happen later about being asked for it back. I used a majority of the money to pay off debts but otherwise, I'm hanging onto the rest.

Yea, that might be a good idea. I can not see our government at least taxing that money at the end of the year and well if you spent it all you might be owing some money at the end of the year and that would suck for a lot of people to find out at the end of the year that they have to come up with a couple hundred dollars to pay taxes.

Good thing that you already receive yours. Ours here is they prioritize first the poorest of the poor. Employed individuals in private sectors and affected the flexible work arrangement or temporary closure are going to receive one time cash assistance of about a 100 dollars from the department of labor. Informal sectors will receive a social ammeleoration for 2 mos at 100-160 dollars per month. Individuals classified as middle class will receive the same amount from sss or internal revenue on May given in two tranch. There still fixing the list of the beneficiaries that's why majority hasn't receive their aid yet.

From my understanding is we are being paid out based on how much you made and how fast you did your taxes. I know I did my taxes in mid January and I guess I didn't make a whole lot so I guess I got mine early.

@Bensen32 It's good to hear that there, the taxpayers get it first. Here, the most vulnerable sector or population were given assistance first in line with the crisis Was it a tax refund?

The stimulus check we got way back when under Bush specifically stated it would not be taxed. I would the same case here. To tax it renders it meaningless.
