Toothache! Ouch! Double ouch!

OH dear oh dear On Saturday whilst eating an apple I broke a tooth and have had three very uncomfortable days and nights. Tooth pain can be extremely painful if you have had it you will know what I mean.
Just talking, drinking or eating can be very painful. I think the reason was because part of the nerve was exposed to the air. Currently the dentists are not seeing patients in my area and the only option to see a dentist is to travel about 15 miles away to a regional hospital that will see people in an emergency. As most surgeries are closed or only open for advice I would not like to even imagine how many people would be waiting in the hospital waiting room to see a dentist.
I walked into town earlier today and queued up outside the chemist to buy an emergency dental treatment kit. I came home and after swirling chlorhexidine around my mouth applied the tooth repair stuff to my tooth and almost immediately the pain disappeared.
Thankfully I had a few dental tools so I was able to do a pretty good job of it by using a mirror and although it looks slightly unsightly I can live with that but it will be far better to be treated completely by a proper dentist although I am not sure how long the dentist will be closed.
So tonight I am really looking forward to going to bed and hopefully I will get a good nights pain free sleep!

They are only giving advice which is not much use when you need it done. I guess it was the best solution. I did not want to drive 15 miles and put myself at risk at the hospital where I know the amount of people will be huge. Fingers crossed I will sleep like a baby tonight!

@garymarsh6 I don’t blame you for not risking your life at the hospital.
Have a good night’s sleep.
You must be worn out.

@garymarsh6 You don't want qwerty on your forehead, so you best get to bed. I hope you have a good night's sleep.
Right now, I'm doing well. It's just past 5 PM.

This is a reason why it is inexcusable to have shut down medical and dental offices.

I would not want to be a dentist to be quite honest. I hated dentistry and thought I had managed to get out of it by just doing the orthopaedic list until my last day and had to scrub for 17 operations in one morning session! Bleurghhhhh!

Hope you get to sleep well with that repair and relief. I am really worried about such situation arising at anytime amidst this virus scare thing. It's not easy and comfortable now to visit a doctor's or dentist office.

@garymarsh6 I hope you slept well. Even our doctors are there for tele Or video consulting. And visit to hospital is only for unavoidable reasons.
Front line corona warriors are risking their life every moment. Many are infected and many have lost their lives already. That's sad

It was like a miracle as soon as I applied it the pain stopped. I guess it just stopped the air getting to the nerve thankfully!

It is just a temporary filling that sets like cement. A dentist has to remove it though so I will still need to see one at some point!

@garymarsh6 But it's fascinating, I don't think it exists here.

I’m sorry you’re suffering with a toothache. I broke a piece of tooth off, but thankfully it’s not hurting in the least. So, when the Veterans hospital reopens I can get it looked at in 6-7 months.

What a blessing that you could do some repair on it and alleviate the pain.

Gary! I was only thinking of you yesterday (the Vienna fridge magnet still has pride of place!) and here you are! Sorry to hear about your tooth, I'm in the same boat myself only luckily without pain as it's a tooth that had the nerve removed some time ago - crunched down an a Starburst of all things and part of the tooth plus the huge filling came away. Our local dental hospital is doing extractions only so am putting up with a jagged tooth (it's at the back thank goodness!) until the dentist opens - which is actually looking like it never will, no chance for next Monday I don't think! Take care x

I have once had tooth pain, which was excruciating.Happily you are a doctor, though not a dentist, and know how to deal with it.

Well at least it doesn't sound like it absessed.
Are your dentist offices still closed there? Ours are here but that only happened here mid March. It's supposed to partially lifts in the fifteenth this month unless it's moved to the end of the month.
Someone asked me why they don't just make it a few months right away and I know no one knows the full situation yet on how long the pandemic will last. Also if they had made it long term from there beginning I think people would riot.
For the most part people here are compliant but some still think it's a hoax while others think they are immune.

wow, they now have that sort of emergency dental treatment kit? (One of my molars seemed to give me some uncomfortable feeling some hours ago. I hope that I was just imagining that feeling after reading some articles about dentists closing their clinics due to Covid-19.)
