"Gloria" was recorded in 1946 by Bob Hayward with Buddy Baker and His Orchestra. I was born in 1948. Also released in 1946 was a song named "Linda"; and I'm pretty sure that's where I finally got my name from.
Now, I don't happen to like the name Linda; but my parents told me that they were going to name me Gloria because of the song. No offense to the Glorias out there; but it makes me glad I'm a Linda.
Do you like your name? Were you almost named something else?

My first name is Linda. My mama wanted to name me Sabra Marie, but my daddy wanted to name me after my mama. Daddy won, but they called me by my middle name.

I like your name. But that's really the way it usually is, isn't it?

Funny. I was supposed to be Robert, but my dad's brother's son (my cousin) was born ten days before me, and my uncle "stole" the name for his son. I did not like my name growing up, because it was "odd" in America. I could not get a little license plate for my bicycle like all the Bobs and Jims could. But now I don't mind it.
