Not Good News From My Neighbor

Have been updating you on my elderly neighbor. The couple that has been in and out of the hospital since December.
She was doing better a few weeks ago when I checked on her. Her pneumonia was improving. And she was recuperating slowly from her surgery.
I noticed a lot of vehicles coming and going lately. So I went over to check on them again. We talked through the door. Sad news. They are working on getting their house up for sale. Then they will either stay with family or a nursing home.
I am devastated. Although at age 90, I guess it is to be expected. Just hard to lose such good neighbors and to see them go down so quickly. Just last year they both were working in their yard and gardens.
She told me she would try to stay in touch. And I snapped another photo from her garden on the way back home. A beautiful white peony.
Life is hard. But I have many memories of spending time with her, having tea, and learning about nature. Sort of like a grandmother.
Awhile back I told you about one of my elderly neighbors. She had complications from surgery in December. And now has pneumonia. She and her husband are both...

I know that you will find a way to stay in touch and you will be a blessing to them. I know because that is who you are.

@CarolDM What can we do to help? Would cards and letters to their new home from all of us help when she gets moved?

@CarolDM Hopefully your Uncle is lucky enough to be where people truly do care. We spend a lot of time at the nursing home here. Most of it now is writing on the windows and sending in notes.

First, I would like to encourage you for the much needed act of unconditional love you demonstrated. This has become rare!
Ageing is regarded as an inconvenience to some members of young families, including own children. It is sad that the sacrifices done for their welfare are forgotten like old trophies. Keep up your examplenary lifestyle!

I share the same for elderly. It is a source of wisdom and often knowledge not written anywhere.

I think something like that is to be expected at age 90. I agree, it's sad to see, but it has to happen at some point. My neighbor across the street is in her 90s. She took a nasty fall and was in the hospital for the longest time. When she got out and was back home, I didn't give her 6 more months before she passed. She just looked that bad. But that was a year ago, and she seems to have recovered fully and is back to her normal self. But I can see that daily life is getting harder and harder for her. It won't be long now before she is going to need full-time assistance, whether it's a live-in aide or whether she moves to a nursing home.

I'm so sorry to hear this; but there will be someone to watch over them. We are all going to get to that point at some time. I told my husband's second cousin (our little housekeeper) that she must keep an eye on us and check on us from time to time. :-) Beautiful capture of the peony.
