Can we conclude that the main purpose of life is to achieve that which you were born without? Because the poor set their goals to being rich and a child to growing up. So humans find their will to live in mystery

purpose of life: be born, contribute to society in some way shape or form, reproduce, die. That is a seriously simplified way of looking at it. Granted it is obviously different for each human being.

@Dahwhey do some good in mine falls under "contribute to society in some way shape or form" @LaDonn, By the way, no I don't think that the poor want to be rich... they just want to be able to survive comfortably. Also, they probably hate the rich for taking all the wealth for themself

I was told that some have adopted the philosophy: "do no harm". This is certainly praiseworthy but perhaps you agree that it would be better to "do some good".

If we believe in God, or even just in something existing behind the Universe existing, would either of these have had any purpose in what they have done? What is the purpose of whatever is responsible for creating life? I might say that there is no purpose behind purpose, as purpose comes forth from the thing created, and is not something that is inbuilt into anything, God included. This means that we must all find our own purpose, for there exists no fundamental basic underlying purpose, except for the purpose of purpose in purpose. Or in other words, whatever purpose, you, yourself find in anything, yourself, and call it a purpose, is a purpose. No other purposes exist.

Lol. I think my head is spinning after reading your comment! Nonetheless, you might agree that most, if not all, have a purpose of finding & doing that which brings them satisfaction, contentment & happiness. Personally, I've found that acquiring these things has engendered within me the conviction that the greatest purpose for me is to help others to find satisfaction, contentment & happiness for themselves &, as a result, I've discovered the real joy of living a life of giving, to the extent that an imperfect person can do so. Admittedly, it can result in a real struggle with oneself at times, but with help it can be done. Check out jw.org...

...the main purpose in life is to follow, closely and with conviction, Jesus's footsteps and to do the will of God so that eternal life may be attained...

@PetuniaPutnick At John 13:35 Jesus states that true Christian's must love one another as he did. He gave his life for his friends, therefore, it is required of true christians that they must be willing to do the same, they must love one another MORE than they do themselves, even giving their lives for another, if necessary. Unselfish love is the laws fulfillment. Therefore, this pursuit & application of unselfish love is the purpose & goal we must seek. Of course, if everyone did this, there would be a world full of people just like him & his Father. But, then, I think that you already knew this, didn't you, friend.

@LaDonn ...indirectly, yes....we live in a direct way in disowning ourselves to please the true God by strictly following his commands and guidance so as to live more according to his purpose and promise... ...once you do a little research on jw.org you may be astonished in finding the answer to that question as well as many others you may have because there is a GRAND purpose to life...

I would think that the purpose of life is to find who created us and align our purpose with his purpose.

Excellent reasoning, Ken! There is so much evidence for design throughout creation. Of course, design necessitates the existence of a designer. It seems unreasonable that such an individual, who went to such great thought & effort to design & build all that we see & experience, would simply toss it all in a corner & forget about it when finished. The bible says that "God is love" (1 John 4:8) & He shows this in many ways. But He has the right to expect love in return, so, He has provided many ways for us to get to know Him, both through creation & His instruction manual (Rom. 1:20; Acts 17:27). Go to jw.org & find a lot of answers.

You might agree that purposes can vary depending on the individual's set of values. It seems reasonable that the ultimate purpose of each person is to achieve lasting happiness. But how is this possible? Can wealth, power, fame or education bring this about? I met a very wealthy & powerful man & conversed with him about family & he said that he knew a number of men in his economic class who would give me half of their wealth if I could help them with their children. He didn't elaborate but I left feeling very sad for him. God's word tells us that we should be content with "sustenance & covering" (1 Timothy 6:8), the sufficient basics of life, but it also tells us that the greatest happiness is to be found in giving, as opposed to receiving (Acts 20:35). This is one reason why He is called "the happy God", because He has given all good things to all His creatures. Sadly, many have abused His kindness & generosity & even focused themselves on a life of selfishness, rather than giving, thus bringing great harm on other creatures, our planet & even themselves. But He has a solution for that. Check out jw.org for the answer & make it your purpose to pursue true happiness!
