Most of you should be familiar with the western starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford that was an acclaimed box office hit. The movie is a fanciful comedic take on the legendary western outlaws. “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” was written by the now legendary team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David whose hits are endless. The song is heard during a playful musical interlude. Ray Stevens was first choice to perform the song and turned it down. Rising singer B.J. Thomas got it and took “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” all the way to #1 in 1970. Thomas would go on to a nice pop and country career enjoyed another #1 with “(Hey, Won’t You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song.” The much covered song is used in ads and other soundtracks. “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

@FourWalls It lost to Born Free which makes the list. Also nominated that year was Georgy Girl. An example of how Oscar nominated songs were two and three hits or classics per year compared to today's drivel.

Great movie and fun song used in the silent bike scene. One of Katherine Ross's favorite scenes in the film.

My boyfriend in high school got a job as an usher. He snuck me and my girlfriend into the movies when this was playing and finally I could hardly get that song out of my head.
