Never Waste Stale Rolls

I got six hard rolls with my order from Publix the other day, Al had three sandwiches with them and the other three sat in the bag. They got very hard. I hate to waste rolls. I decided to make a bread pudding.
It was a simple one, golden raisins, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, eggs and milk over the bread and then a good soak. I cooked it for 40 minutes and it came out perfect.
Waste not want not is one of my favorite sayings.

That’s a wonderful thing to do any time! It certainly looks good.
Bon Ton’s in New Orleans has such wonderful bread pudding.
They gave me their recipe, but perhaps it’s online now.
If you’d like it, PM me, but you have to wait until I return to CT. lol

I love making bread pudding, out of dry bread! It's delicious and an excellent way to use up stale bread.

@kobesbuddy I do too, I am a big fan of nutmeg but my sister in law is allergic and I thought she might be eating some of this one so I left it out.

@hereandthere This is the recipe we use. But we don't use raisins or nutmeg in ours. It's a good way to use up leftover rice - especially since this (1-1/2 cups of cooked rice) is so little rice for anything.

I love a good bread pudding. My husband has to eat gluten free, so no bread pudding for me.

@BelleStarr There may be a brand of GF flour (they're all a different blend) that's not gritty, but I haven't found it yet.

And you got a yummy dessert or breakfast item out of that idea. I've had brewed pudding before and it's yummy but not on my current diet. Did you add some Rolls to the hard ones that pic doesn't look like only three but maybe that wasn't your image. I didn't look.

No it is just the three rolls, I cut them up into small cubes and soaked in the egg and milk mixture.

I ordered some from Walmart.com last week but I had some left from before this all hit. Dollar general had some too when I was there.

@sallypup I get my courag up every few weeks and take a spin there but the people who go there are crazy and get too close, I had to ask a woman to backup and it has happened everytime I go there.

I like bread pudding. But don't eat it as much as I used to. Whenever we didn't eat up the bread, I always broke it into crumbs and tossed it outside for the birds. They were always very grateful. I'd throw the crumbs in the yard and then go back inside and peek out my window to see. First one would show up. Then two. Then before you knew it there was a flock!!
