Continuing my series on interesting/strange occupations gone due to societal and technological changes. USED TEETH SALESMAN In need of some second hand teeth? Well, this certainly is a different type of salesman from the popular encyclopedia door to door salesman of years ago. This job was very popular in Europe during the 20th century, because access to decent dental treatment was limited and many people could not afford to visit the dentist for care. So when their teeth began to rot away, the solution was to buy second-hand false teeth from salesman who dealt in the trade. And you thought George Washington had it bad with his Paul Revere made model! Fortunately, the formation of the National Health Service in 1948 ended the gross trade in the UK, though it carried on in other parts of Europe for a time longer. So, how does this job sound to you? Do you have the stomach for it and the courage to demonstrate how the false teeth fit on those toothless clients? You really found an interesting occupation this time. No, I wouldn't want someone else's false teeth in my mouth.
