She survived the Spanish flu but Covid-19 took her

We know that the older population is vulnerable to the dreaded Covid-19 and I am sure many will say that this 111 year old great great great grandmother had lived long enough. She survived the Spanish flu and many wars. However, I find it a travesty and extremely sad that this woman had to die this way because she didn't really have to.
You see the woman only went into long term care at 107 years old - 4 years ago. It's not about the fact that she died but that she died alone and unnecessarily. Many of the deaths in our country from COVID-19 have been due to the poor contitions in long term or nursing care homes where the vulnerable live out their last days.
Many of these homes were short staffed to begin with and did not do enough to stop the spread of the virus. Most of these homes, mainly in the larger provinces like Ontario, have been abandoned by staff because they fear for their lives and they were overworked and not properly protected. In some cases the military has been sent in to take care of these people.
So-called wealthy and powerful countries should be able to take better care of their vulnerable population

We have many problems in my country which has many needs in a normal situation. Jails and nursing homes are a pity and old people have such a low retirement pension that they cannot live with it.

That is so sad. Governments need to care more for the elderly.

I understand very well what you are saying. We have had survivors that suffered so much in the Holocaust die of this virus. Yes, I have seen that the Senior citizens have been suffered a lot because of this virus telling them not go to out and stay home. It is not only the elderly, but, babies and young adults are getting it too so I feel all should be treated equally and leave the elderly to die so younger ones can survive.
