What type of knitting needles do you prefer? Why?

I am a begining knitter so I really don't know much about it but I like useing straight needles. I tried knitting in the round but didn't havve much luck at it.

I haven't braved the knitting in the round yet. But for beginners, I think wood knitting needles are best. They don't slide the yarn as easy, making it a little easier to hold your stitches.

You might think I'm crazy but when I first tried Knitting I really didn't want to invest in the needles because I was afraid i couldn't do it so I sharpened 2 pencils I amde my sons a scarf each on pencils I thought I'm use to writeing so why not. After I seen I could knit then I bought needles.

I've only been knitting for a couple of weeks. During that time, though, I've tried bamboo, aluminum, and plastic. So far I like the aluminum ones the best followed by bamboo. I really didn't like the plastic ones at all. I am looking forward to getting a couple more pairs of aluminum ones this weekend. I have a few pairs of bamboo, but I want to use aluminum for dishcloths. The cotton yarn seems to slide much easier on the aluminum.

I like the aluminum ones, plastic are okay, I don't like the wooden ones because the yarn sticks to them.
