You planted seeds in WHAT?

So far I've planted tomato seeds in eggshells (I always do this and they always do well), stuck a thin slice of strawberry in the dirt to see what happens (not expecting much), and because I was having such poor luck with beans germinating this year (no idea why), tried the wet paper towel method the other day (a couple are finally sprouting), and this morning stuck a bean in a used teabag. Do you buy seedlings, or start your plants from seed? If the latter, do you plant them in anything 'weird'?

I am using the cartons from the eggs. I make a hole and then add good soil.

I plant in the eggshell, and then sit that in the carton.

@marguicha Oh, do try it! They love the calcium from the shell, then you just tap the bottom and plant the whole thing. I've got a couple of blog posts about it.

Just before these stay at home orders, I started "gardening" on the table by the kitchen table. I put the bottoms of green onions in little water jars . . . I have had a harvest grow just from water (still growing!). Also in water jars are bok choy, lemon grass, celery, and recently mint. My avocado seed did not do anything - it's been weeks.

Oh yes, there are lots of things you can keep going just by putting them in water. I don't use a lot of celery or onion, so I don't normally do that, but I have.

@much2say I think much of what I'm doing is just for fun. I don't even like tomatoes, yet I can grow them like crazy. I'll never plant/grow enough to get much of a bounty to make it worthwhile, but I do love watching things grow from seed, so I'll continue to play.

@Ldyjarhead Ah, we use a lot of celery and onion here. But I don't know that the celery will grow big enough where we could actually use it. It's fun to watch anyway.
