Netflix's Death Note is a Dissapointment.

I just watched the Netflix adaptation of the anime Death Note. I was actually disappointed. The Japanese live-action adaptation was far much better. I was looking forward to witnessing the battles of the wits between 'Kira' and 'L' just like in the anime and the live movie. There was none at all. I wish I could find my DVD of the Japanese version though. I love to see it again. Have you seen Death Note?

@allen0187 Unless you want to watch the Netflix version later in order to find out why people don't like it. Hehehe

I'd recommend the Japanese version. It's way much better.

Casting White people to play Japanese people is already a redflag this is a bad movie.

@jrlcentral That casting is racist though that casting controversy is the reason why Hollywood gives Asian roles to Actual Asians now. They almost casted white people for Crazy rich Asians.

@CaptAlbertWhisker well then had an African-American play the role of 'L' probably to make it less look racist. In fairness, he did his part well...

I did not mind the casting, actually. But it's the whole script that's messed up!

Maybe if you have not seen the anime or the Japanese live movie adaptation, probably you won't be disappointed as those who have seen them. :).

i have seen the anime and i really liked it, but when the netflix adaptation was out, i've seen many comments about how it's not even worth watching so i didn't.

Yeah, I read those negative comments also. I should have listened. But boredom and curiosity got the better of me. For any consolation, there were some moments of thrill though, so it was not a total waste of time. Still, the Japanese live-action is way much better.

I'm kinda sad that they destroyed such a masterpiece. They turned an intellectual mind games anime into a teen drama by having light be an emo boy. Its really sad.
