Lovely Laurel

We decided, many years ago when we first moved int our house, that we didn't want a wooden fence at the bottom of the garden but preferred a more natural, native hedge. So we bought a mix of native British hedging plants - blackthorn, beech, guelder rose, yew ... - but then I discovered that insects found laurel was great for protection from cold weather so, just in front of the yew,
The laurel gave my hedge an extra element, something dramatically dark green with its beautiful glossy, waxy leaves. But one thing I wasn't expecting was these lovely white flowers every other year! Paintings are lovely, but you can't beat nature for beauty.
