How to Use the Library (during shutdown)

Some libraries know how much they and their services are missed. The library where I used to live, in partnership with a car dealership, are providing material to be checked out.
It gets delivered to your porch in a brown paper bag. You are responsible to return items to one of their book drops when you are done. They quarantine returned items for three days.
Here is the link:
Unfortunately we do not live in the city limits of McPherson.
I bet you are missing your library.

I miss mine, because I am one of the guys who runs it! It is what is called a "community managed library" that is staffed by volunteers - my job is to organize the volunteer rota and ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Unfortunately we had to close at the end of March and have no idea when we will be able to re-open.
One very frustrating aspect of the closure is that the library includes a suite of 10 computers that would be ideal for use by local children who are currently not able to be in school but are expected to work from home using online resources. We know that many local children do not have their own computer facilities, which is why they use ours when we are open. But as things are, the library computers are forced to sit idle in a locked room.
The only services available - run from the central County Library - are online ebooks and journals

That must feel so frustrating to you. I find I miss having purposeful work to do.

@saundyl I have not been a good reader for years, but I need to do the online reading, I think. I seem to have grown physically attached to the computer.

Hubby is not interested in reading what I have at home and so has turned to old television shows. I am online a lot, but have tons of books I can read and possibly will.

@RubyHawk Once the sun comes out I will be outdoors more, and it will help me. I need to look into online reading, though.

@GardenGerty We've watched TV a good bit and still do but it's getting to be old hat. We're both reading more than usual lately.

I had to read They quarantine returned items for three days twice, but I understand what you mean. I am not sure what our county library will do. I use the e-library anyway, so it doesn't much impact me.
I think it's nice that they deliver the books now, especially as it helps those who really want to read be able to do so. I've seen pictures and videos of people helping those who are most at risk. This lady posted a note at the entrance to her building asking for dvds or books, anything for entertainment. The whole building left her a few things to keep her busy.

I have to reread things from time to time myself. I have not really used any library since we moved, but hubby liked to check out huge stacks of books from this particular one.

@GardenGerty Was he able to finish the whole stack before they needed to be renewed or returned? I have never been able to manage it.

@Jessicalynnt He would not do audio anything. I am pretty certain things will be opening up fairly soon. It is also a problem that his favorite library is an hour away.

What I like about this particular library is the atmosphere you experience reading in the actual beautiful space.

@mrki444 I have not been much of a reader for a while. I should read online, though.

I printed out a whole list of what is opening when in Kansas and I do not remember seeing libraries on the list.

Ours has many things online now that you can borrow. I just had to download an app.

Some people do not do online, so this is good for them. I agree that it is very convenient for a lot of things, even when we are not shut down.

That system would not work with our huge population. I miss the library.

I do not imagine it would. This particular town has fewer than 15,000 persons.
