When the focus is on the food

I am not so pleased when the focus is on the food. Somehow everyone online and off line seem to be focusing on food these days.
I love cooking, but I hate being overly fixated with food. With my younger son being at home 24/7 he is always talking about food. Its always about what is for lunch or dinner or breakfast. He isn't a big eater for all that.
Every meal has to be different, cooked from scratch and gourmet. Now that seems to me like over emphasis on food.
This has got to do more with the lockdown than the real craving for food, we are seeking comfort in food right now as other physical activities are restricted.
What do you think? Do you see a similar increase in food talk around you?

I think if he wants that many meals from scratch and gourmet, it's time for him to cook too!

@Jessicalynnt Maybe, he isn't the kind to sit in one place, still a teenager, active and sporty.

@sofssu ask him what's up? Is it a way to distract from worries?

Yes, the lock down has compelled households to stock up on food. The refrigerator is full. There's not much activity inside the home, aside from watching the news. So people turn to the kitchen, and food.
My daughter's baking her first bread today. Mine was a flop the other day.
At least your son is eating, others are too picky on food. Ask him to help you. Tell him it is a lesson on culinary arts.

@sofssu No news yet on my daughter's bread, just a picture of the ingredients. She's using Lurpak butter. That's pretty expensive here in my country.
Food is nourishment for me. Embedded in our culture though is deep love for eating. We eat excessively, as if even if the stomach is full, there's still room for dessert.

Actually I have never really understood how people are sitting around and eating so much during this time. My "prepping" mentality kicked in and I'm more about conserving and eating to stay healthy as much as possible. I know it's so easy to snack when at home, but I'm really trying to teach the opposite here. I'm having my kids to pick healthier choices and have them cook whenever possible. I am still trying to keep the routine of keeping breakfast simple, using up leftovers for lunch, and maybe cooking a fancier dinner depending on the ingredients at hand. I have other things I have to get done around the house too . . . so I can't focus on food all day.

@sofssu This has been my way of thinking since the beginning . . . maybe the things my parents told me about their childhood have finally sunk in. I was taught to not even waste a single grain of rice. Now I truly understand what they were saying. And yes, this is not a time to splurge . . . conserving now could save you down the road. Oh my gosh - I am listening to the new right now . . . they are doing a segment on people overspending during this time .

Maybe he is bored is why his focus is on food. Being stuck inside is very hard. Food these days does not interest me once like it did. I eat because I eat two meals a day. I do not have to worry about children. My cat also eats two meals a day. When he went to school and was active did he want something different to eat all the time or accept what you made?

Yes, of course, it is eaten out of boredom, people have all the time in the world at home and satisfy their family members in various delicacies. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with it, at least the junk food is not eaten, finally a little change in home cooking (at least here)

@sofssu I understand. Look, it is better to talk about food than about a virus, this topic is already on top of my head
