There is a frangipani tree near our compound wall. Some people know it by the name plumeria. The local name in Bengali is Chaampa, with the "m" suppressed by a nasal sound. It is also called " Kath golap" (wood rose). But in the hill country whence I come it is known and loved as "(Golainchee). Two girls, if they wanted to be loving and faithful friends, they took a frangipani flower each and exchanged it thrice saying , "You are my Golainchee". Since that moment they would address each other with this loving name. And they never betrayed each other. I have grown two cuttings of frangipani in clay pots. They grow easily. Just plant a merismetic part (top part) of branch and it takes roots in some days. If you are a flower lover , you can grow this friendship tree without much hassle.

These flowers have a pleasant perfume. My children bring them and offer them at the altar.
