If you've known me for while, you know that I've posted Discussions about plastic pollution and trash in our waterways, etc. Not only is it unsightly, but it ends up in our oceans and rivers and threatens wildlife. Sea life can get tangled up in various items; and some will eat the toxic plastic along with their regular food.
Just to give you an idea of how long some of this trash stays in our environment, here is a sampling:
Plastic Bottles - 450 Years
Diapers - 200-500 Years
Glass Bottles - 1000 Years
Plastic Bags - 50 Years
Aluminum Cans - 50 Years
Nylon - 600 Years
Styrofoam - 50 Years
Can Holders - 400 Years - Those 6-pack plastic holders. Make sure you cut them up before disposing of them so that wildlife does not get stuck in one of the holes.
Cigarettes - 1-5 Years
And don't forget about balloon releases. They are also bad for the environment.
Please dispose of your litter or recycle, especially on our beaches and waterways. Your children will thank you in the future.

that's what i thought about, too - all the packaging and containers of the cleaning and sanitizing items, then there's all the packaged food, ingredients, etc people hoarded, plus the food deliveries since they can't go out.

It is such easy thing to toss trash into a bin. No wonder people are such a mess.

Linda, very good point. I am sorry but you are going to find those that do the right thing and those that do not care or do not think why they do not pick up after themselves and throw their trash out in a can instead of leaving it lie around.

There are some companies that "harvest" recyclables from the landfills. We need more companies such as these.

There is an organization called 4ocean (I believe) that cleans out the ocean. There are organizations and individuals that strive to keep the beaches clean.
I try to only buy things in glass jars or bottles if I can help it. Of course, you can't always help it.
There is a general store in my county which I hope will survive this pandemic. It's reminscent of the way things once were way back. They have bins full of dry goods like beans and peanuts, instead of plastic bags with them.
We can't always trust our own recycling programs either.

Maybe this is why those littering are now confined to their houses.
