The Dawn of a New Day

I decided on the spur of the moment that I wanted to see a sunrise at the beach, so I surprised my girlfriend with an early wakeup call to hop in the truck and go for a drive. Of course, she slept the entire hour and a half drive, but that's okay she didn't know I was going to wake her up at such an early hour. Our destination was a sleepy little out-of-the-way beach called Butler Beach, just south of St. Augustine on the Atlantic coast of Florida. Being that most beaches are still closed due to the pandemic, I didn't want to draw too much attention to ourselves. We arrived with just enough time to pick our spot on the beach, set up our blanket, and huddle together in the cool crisp morning waiting for the sun to come up. When the moment came, it was such a beautiful sight, and in those fleeting minutes where the world slowly came to life, it seemed like everything was right with the world. A new day had begun. We spent an hour huddled together on the beach, first watching the sun rise, then talking about life, and then finally walked around a little bit looking at seashells. Not wanting to push our luck with the local authorities, we made our way back to our vehicle and drove up to St. Augustine Beach for a cozy little seaside breakfast at a mom and pool place that had just reopened. After our little spur of the moment adventure, we drove the hour and a half back home and resumed our happy little life in our new COVID-dominated world, but this time with a little more pep in our step and a smile behind our mandatory face masks. Not a bad way to start the day!

You painted a beautiful photo in my mind. The perfect scene from a movie. Glad you enjoyed the moments.

Oh thanks! Maybe I should become a Hollywood screenwriter! haha We had a good time, although it was too short. I wish we could have made an entire day of our trip. But with most places still being closed, we didn't have a lot of options of things to do. Of course, I would have been happy just laying on the beach working on my tan, but I didn't want to risk getting in trouble due to the beaches being closed.

@moffittjc It is always too short when you are having fun. Glad you played it safe.

@CarolDM I agree. I wish the fun times would drag on like molasses and the bad times fly by in the blink of an eye! Why does it have to be the other way around? lol

It's rare for me to capture a good sunrise photo, as I mostly tend to enjoy sunsets more than sunrises. Just depends on my work schedule I guess. I decided to take some time off of work today to head to the beach. I wish we could have stayed longer and actually worked on our tans a little bit.

@simone10 I prefer a beach too, but it's nice to see mountains every now and then, something that doesn't ever happen in flat Florida!

It’s quite a little drive for you to get to the beach! But you’re closer to mountains than I am, so you at least got that going for you!

@Jessicalynnt Definitely super uncommon! I can't even remember the last time I've been to a beach and had the entire place to myself.

@Courtlynn I like a lazy day every now and then! I'm not typically the type of person who likes to sit around and do nothing, but every now and then I like taking a break to recharge my mind and body.

@moffittjc I love to sit out on my porch and watch the sun come up. These days the sun comes up before I get up. That is ok. I know it is not the same as being at the beach but it was really fun to be there when the sun would poke its head out and let us know it is morning and time to get up. I bet it was so nice to get out before you had to go back into life of the virus at home. That was a nice treat. Our beaches are far away so I settle for sitting on my porch which I love and watching the sun come up and say hello to us.

@Hannihar I always took the beach for granted because I grew up on the beach. But now that I live further inland, I miss the beach so much!

Although it was special getting to see a sunrise on the beach, really anywhere you can be to see the sun come up for the start of a new day is special. I'm glad you can enjoy sunrises from the comfort of your own porch!

@moffittjc Thanks so much Jeff. You are right in what you said, but, at the beach with the water and waves it gives it an added touch.

@dodo19 The family is doing great! I'm also doing great now, but I did catch the coronavirus and was quite sick for a while. Nineteen days to be exact. It was rough, but I made it through! I hated being quarantined, because I'm not the type of person who likes to sit still for very long. I like to be out and about doing fun and active things! Thankfully, our lockdown restrictions have been eased starting this week, so I've been trying to get outside every chance I get (with a mask on of course!)

In my younger days, I used to make spontaneous trips all the time. As I grew older, I found that I had to act more responsibly, especially after getting married and having kids.

@wolfgirl569 That's great to hear! So many pet owners these days let their animals dictate to them their schedule. Sometimes it makes me question who is really the pet and who is really the owner in those situations! lol But you seem to have it under control. You set the rules, and the animals follow them, which is exactly the way it should be!
