I spent about a month there a couple of years ago and had an incredible time. The food, weather, people and beaches were great, and swimming in the ocean after one of the "special shakes" was very memorable to say the least. Tell me about your experiences, and anywhere you'd suggest visiting. I spent most of my time on Ko Pha Ngan

thailand was a very great holiday trip for me. i love going there as food, shopping, people, enviornment there were great, but the most memorable one was the food. the first time when i am back from there i kept thinking of the food there so i promised myself next trip there i must eat until enough. so the second time of my visit there i actually eat until i vomit in a restuarant. the whole restuarant costumers are looking at me with mouth open wildly. it was so embrassoring.... and never be a forgetable experience i ever had. i will never forget about it. so now i will try to control my appeities. lol.

As for myself, I feel that the best thing about thailand is the shopping! I love to buy things at thailand as their things are cheap, and good. Though many of the things are imitations, but I still love the style of those goods. Well, guess I am quite a practical person who just looks for opportunities in shopping, eating, and relaxing. Their theme park, and Go-karts are extremely fun too, with about less than 10 dollars, I could enjoy lots of things there, turly a tourist heaven.

Bangkok, Thailand - view of the National Palace and the Wat of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok, Thaliand.
I made several trips to Tailand in the 1970's. I agree with you on all points. Most of my visits were for a weekend or a few days. I was in Saigon at the time so it was a short flight. Unfortunately I only went to Bangkok...didnt get to the beaches down south. Bought a lot of jewelry real cheap mostly rings. I too love the food and believe it or not all the times I went there it never rained....beautiful sunshine. The National Palace is awesom and the Emerald Buddha. I even got to see the Royal Barge on one of my trips. Utterly fantastic. I would like to go back again some day.

I went there 3 times, in the US Navy. Out of all the countries I visited, it had the best USD exchange rate! I got cool hotels, for under $10/day! Everything was just so cheap, and I had fun. We went to Pattaya. I'm not if "special shakes" is what I think you mean; soapy, anyone? =]

I was in Chiangmai for a week attending a course. The most memorable place I visited in Chiangmai was the night bazaar and Doi Su Thep. The night bazaar is a good place for people who like to shop and bargain. Lots of nice stuff, clothes, thai silk, decoration, lovely scarves, trinkets and household decoration items. As for Doi Su Thep, I must say it is one of the most beautiful temples I have ever visited. It is located above a hill and you can catch the view of the city from there. It has a golden pagoda which is really beautiful and there are many shrines for devotees to make offerings and prayers. I would like to go back there and see more of that place.
