Vintage Recipes : 1931 Waffle Recipe + End of the day?

Watched Glen & Friends on youtube make another vintage recipe, and I'm sharing the link below. How many lotters have a waffle iron / waffle maker? I know I don't. It's just after two o'clock and I guess you could say that I am done with my day. That is, Ive written over 1,500 words today and I'm pretty happy with that. The past few days I have barely gone above 500 words a day. I may write more, but at the moment I'm thinking I might not. I haven't read in a few days. I might do a bit of that. I did just rearrange the top of a double bookcase and made room for a big plastic container to go on top of it. There's a box of "why is that there?" on the floor that's been there for years. I might go through it and dispose of it accordingly. This just came to mind, and I may not do it, but I'm considering measuring to see if I could fit my bed at a different angle. Hmm.. So that's what's going on in my world, What about yours? Watched Glen & Friends on youtube make another vintage recipe, and I'm sharing the link below. Its great how everyone is cooking and baking more actually- may be the only good/odd side effect of this horrible situation--lol! We all are definitely cooking more whether we like it or not. Love waffles but have to have wheat free ones- (which aren't as tasty)

I do cook a little more than before, but I don't bake any more than I did. I have been looking at some recipes though . I'd like to try my hand at a lower carb bread one day. I do think that we would all benefit from cooking more and eating out less.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes you're right and that's on thing this virus has brought about-- more cooking and baking at home. I do like a break now and then though.

I do have a waffle maker but lately I buy frozen.

Frozen is so much more convenient. I don't crave waffles a lot so a waffle maker would go unused here.

I have never had a waffle iron - either electric or the old kind which was heavy and had to be heated on the hob (or in the fire), though I have seen both used. The recipe shown doesn't have any sugar (or salt) in it, which is curious, and the batter is much thicker/stiffer than I expected it to be. I would have expected a pouring consistency - like a rather thick pancake batter.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I don't know whether 'rich milk' would have been any sweeter. It would have been a full cream milk, no doubt, and straight from the dairy - no messing about with it in factories then! I guess that you could have the waffles with whatever topping you preferred - maple syrup, ice cream, strawberry jam and clotted cream (like a Devon Tea!) and that would provide the sugar. We probably tend to put too much sugar into things these days, anyway.

@owlwings I know you are right. Every modern meal seems to have one aspect of sugar, even down to the tomato sauce! Though, of course that's to cut the acidity of the tomatoes themselves.

I was surprised by the consistency of the batter as well, and I wondered whether it would make for tougher waffles. I wonder if the "rich milk" at that time was quite sweet and they didn't think adding more sugar would be palatable?

I do have a waffle maker, and sometimes use it for other things than waffles.

I guess there are all sorts of things you can waffle-ize I feel like I've seen someone make hashbrowns in one.

I don't think I have a waffle maker. I have a bunch of appliances in the pantry that I haven't used in decades. Nothing going on here!

I have lots of appliances that go unused as well. I'd probably use them if I had more access to them.

Momma's got a waffle iron somewhere. I wonder if it would make alright pancakes sans iron...

The recipe? I was wondering that too. It might even be a fluffy pancake.

@FayeHazel No worries. I'm not sure if it would make a good pancake, but maybe a few tweaks to the recipe and it would be perfect.
