Curb Side Delivery Anyone?

This Covid-19 pandemic has given us a whole new world and it is not just the physical distancing etc. There are terms and phrases as well as all the new compulsory directives.
Delivery and take out has replaced 'dining out' and unfortunately is the only other option to cooking yourself- always and everyday. So people have been using delivery services so much more than ever before.
And these services are doing remarkably well in a world where so many are losing money and their jobs/businesses.
But the term 'Curbside delivery' kind of stumps me. I understand when your getting food delivered- it could go to your curb for you to pick it up- that is- if no one just picks it up and takes off with it first! ha! And even if they re delivering packages- although do you really want someone running over your purchase-lol!
But what does it mean from a store AFTER THEIR OPEN? So you go in the store and buy the item and then what-- they take it to the curb??
Cause that what they're saying things are now open for?? Well that just doesn't make sense to me. And the media just use the term and terms like it as if we all know exactly what they are talking about.
What do you make of this newly overused term and any other term they are now using and never explain. Lol!

No but it is a phrase now used for delivery from many stores and is a confusing term.

@MarymargII Those who deliver here deliver outside your door. For pick up you must call and they give you the time when to go, only one people at a time inside the restaurant to pick up the food.

@LadyDuck I like the fact that they will give you a time- I don't order too much but whenever we did we had to go pick up when we thought it would be ready and stay apart from others.

I see you got your answer below . . . and by now maybe you are a pro with "curbside" . I hear it a lot on the news now as certain retailers have been allowed to at least have curbside pick up. My husband went to an electronics store a couple months ago . . . all he did was pull up to the curb of the store and someone handed him his stuff which he pre-ordered and paid for online. Me - I haven't used any service at all.

@MarymargII Right? I guess people who shop online a lot are fine with that - but I'm still a "real" store person . . . I need to see my items and get them right there and then.

I can see it would work with regular things you know you need- but if you want to look at the item as in clothes, shoes and/or furniture etc. it seems weird.

@much2say I know and it seems a real drag to have to send it back and then wait for a new item that still may not be right.

@MarymargII It's an online order. Or order from their app. You don't go into the store.

@just4him I know but it seems funny when the store is open and you can go in.

That makes sense but do you go in and buy the item if the store is open? Before they were you would order it first before pick up.

I assumed it meant they bring it to my car. Restaurants here that don't have drive through were doing it that way here. And some other retail places too. Order online or by phone and then they bring it out.
Grocery stores had that before the pandemic.

@MarymargII Here, most stores seem to still be offering to bring it to your car even now that they are open.
Even greenhouses are doing that, if you don't want to go in.

True but when the store is open what then? Do you just buy it at the cashier?

@mrki444 Its hard to understand how the drone would know if the person that picks it up is the right person??

I haven’t really thought about it. We aren’t doing takeout from curbside.

I know and sometimes we need a reminder of the explanation. It's like all the Initials they use some time and we're supposed to always know what they stand for.
