I want what THEY'RE having

MyLotter paigea (@paigea) wrote about a sheep getting into their garden. You can catch up here: https://www.mylot.com/post/3367923/the-sheeps-in-the-meadow-the-cows-in-the-oops In my response, I said that maybe it thought the grass was greener on the other side of the fence. Have you heard that saying. That the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence? I’m sure we’ve all seen animals stretching through a fence trying to get to something tasty on the other side. It struck me that humans aren’t too much different. I know when I eat out and take great care in choosing my courses, I invariably see a meal coming out from the kitchen that looks much nicer than whatever it is I’ve chosen. I find myself wishing ‘I wish I’d ordered that’. Does this happen to you too? Choosing something you think you want then finding yourself wishing for something else? Photo is of a meal I had on the Queen Mary.

I read her post and have heard and used that expression. lol I always want what my husband orders, so we solved that problem by sharing or me ordering the same thing.

That's probably a good idea. I might be inclined to order something else then share the meals between us.

Hubby does not like to share. His plate is his!!!! Once I wanted to order a ridiculously large dessert. He wouldn't share and ordered his own. I couldn't finish mine, he did agree to have some of mine and I left some on the plate. We both walked out stuffed. He could have shared!

Yes I often see some lovely looking meals being taken to nearby tables and many times my friends and I have asked what it is they ordered and ordered it ourselves just to try to see if it was as good as it looked. Living in a country that is foreign to you means that there are lots of dishes that you have never heard of or tried before. So when you see something that looks and smells good, I think it is worth giving it a go. We have found many new favourites thiis way

Sometimes too, in a foreign country, you have trouble making head or tail of the menu too.

I like 'anything with crumbs' lol but Vince always reckons it hides lower quality meat. He crumbs/breads his own quite often now.

Did you order off-menu or are fish fingers a regular option on the Queen Mary?

@WorDazza I only put on a couple of kilos - less than half a stone - so I was pretty pleased about that - but wished I'd eaten more.

I've thought that many times. Lately, I find myself watching people and wishing I had their build and then realize, that's what I'm working to achieve.

@JudyEv I don't think I eat a lot, but maybe I do. I eat a large breakfast and then a later lunch/dinner that's small by comparison. I might have a snack or two during the day, but it's usually a banana.

That looks like an amazing meal. I tend to be pretty straight forward when it comes to my ordering, and yes. There have been MANY times where I saw something being served a table over and thought, oops. Missed that one. lol

@JudyEv Even still, I tend to stick to what I know a lot of the time when I go out. Not that I am not experimental, I just want to know I am going to enjoy what I eat, even though I also know there are few times I find I do not like a dish.

I'm more often to be served way too much. lol Some restaurants do serve very small meals and in some, any salads or vegetables have to be ordered separately.

I got a good laugh on this one, because it literally happens to me every single time I eat out at a restaurant. I will peruse the menu religiously, then select the meal that I think is the most delectable, and then sure enough 30 seconds after the waiter walks away to submit our order, another waiter comes out of the kitchen carrying a dish that looks ten times more tantalizing than what I ordered. It happens every single time! I'm glad I'm not the only one out there that goes through this scenario!
