When you want to separate to your in laws but your husband don't want to..

I sometimes pity myself for not having a house of my own. I have a good job and I can purchase a house for me and my husband but the problem is, he doesn't want to separate from his mother. So I am the one adjusting. I understand his reason that his mother will be completely left alone if we separate but you know we could just find a house and lot nearby so we can visit her every now and then. And I don't care if it's a small house as long as it's mine. As long as I am comfortable with it. Am I asking for too much?

I can understand your feelings that when you are married you should separate from your parents and live independently. I guess the only compromise you can find is looking for a place that is near your mom in law.

@rsa101 It would be great if he's open to that idea.

@kepweng Yes it's common in my country but I don't like this kind of set up.

if you find a house nearby, can your mother-in-law manage alone? when she passes, will the house be inherited by your hubby?

@renicemae maybe you can have a house nearby where you and the kids stay, while hubby reports to his mother's house daily and helps her during the day? so that in the future, when your sister-in-law comes home, she can stay with their mother, while you already have your own place.

He thinks that it will be inherited to him since he's the only son in the family. But he's elder sister has no plans of marrying so that means, she'll be living with us if she comes back from abroad.

No, you are not asking too much. I can relate to your situation. It is better for you to have your own home. Good luck.

You could even get a house with an in-law suite or, as you said, a house next door.

Yeah. That would be okay with me but my husband is the problem.

I can feel you with that. I hope you can convince your husband because it's really hard especially when you feel uncomfortable every time.

Tough decision. I am sure you already know in your heart what you want to do.

It is really hard when you want some privacy. Tell your husband you can build a home adjacent or near his mother's home so he can always visit her.

I understand. Even I go through this phase at times. But in the end we can't gather the strength to seperate a son from.his mother. Is his mother bothering you a lot.
