Can pregnant women go to jail?

I see your point, but wouldn't it be unfair to the child. The living conditions in jail, the poor food. A pregnant woman has to eat right in order for the baby to grow properly. What if the woman gets raped or stabbed by other women in jail or killed...Or do they treat her any different? Like a special prison cell with proper nutrition and such...

Are they in the hospital throughout the rest of the pregnancy or just until right before she pops? I understand the baby being given away I mean the woman commited a serious crime like murder or something, so the kid wouldn't be good in her hands.
