“The Marine 5: Battleground” stars former WWE champion Mike “The Miz” Mizanin as the fearless heroic former marine in this film franchise that originally began with John Cena in the title role. This time our hero Jake Carter (Mizanin) is a rookie EMS on his first day on the job. Two guys have gunned down the leader of a biker gang and called 911 to treat a gunshot wound. Their location is the parking structure for a closed amusement park. Jake and partner arrive to help but the vengeful biker gagng are hot on their heels.
Two thirds of the action takes place within the parking structure then moves out into the amusement park so that provides plenty of hairy situations and backgrounds. When his partner is shot in the head, Jake the marine is out to take down the entire biker gang. Standard action fare that moves along at a swift pace.
“Dark Phoenix” is the latest entry in the “X-Men” franchise and was a disastrous box failure being the biggest flop of 2019 losing $133 million for the studio. That is odd because it is no better or worse that the other “X-Men” origins movies. Those are the ones set in the past during their formative years meaning James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender play young versions of Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellan). No young Wolverine.
This entry focuses on Jean Grey and what her origin was and how she came into Xavier’s care. On an assignment to save space shuttle astronauts, Jean sucks in a mysterious galactic force which affects her mind and gives her greater power than all the X-Men combined. Some superpower aliens want to control her for their own means. All hell breaks loose meaning endless noisy special effects action sequences. The movie does end without an end because “Dark Phoenix” was meant to be the first part of a trilogy but that was sunk when Disney bought Marvel.
How did you amuse yourself?
In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed ...

Never watched any of those 'The Marine' movies. If it becomes available in Netflix, I might watch it though.
Watched 'Dark Phoenix' in the theater. Not good but not that bad either. I'm excited to see the X-Men in the upcoming Marvel movies.

I did not know The Miz had gone into action fare. I watched Live PD, and it made me wonder how people aren't smacked more often. I mean, people can be so stupid. I also watched Mike Rowe's Someone's Gotta Do It, which makes me feel better about people in general.

My son was very upset when Disney did that with Marvel. I think he saw the movie. I'll need to ask him. He's more a DC fan as he told me this morning.
The first movie sounds good.
My fare - Yesterday was a Netflix binge day. 3 episodes of Travelers, 2 episodes of Legends of Tomorrow, 1 episode each of Person of Interest, Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash.
