Keep Your Mitts Off Me

On our morning walk together this morning, hubs and I had a conversation. I discussed something that I would normally discuss with my girlfriends.
I do not like to be touched by others, especially strangers and acquaintances!
I do not like it when others touch my hair, lift it, or brush it aside.
I do not enjoy others touching my clothes, feeling the material, fingering details, or tugging on them.
I do not like anyone smelling my perfume up close with their nose on my neck.
I do not appreciate these strangers and acquaintances hugging, kissing, patting me on my back, picking me up and twirling me around, or putting their arm around my shoulders.
All those things are reserved for my family. My husband understands completely.

I am like you though of course I don't to worry about perfume sniffing! I have never been a touchy feely person and uncomfortable if someone gets too close to my space. I never like it when in a theater or restaurant setting with people sitting all around. I can dig that 6 foot thing of no one around my seat. I get it.

I’m sorry, but if we meet you’re gonna get a hug from me. That’s just my nature, so put on a spiked armor shirt to stop me.
But I will NOT be Joe Biden smelling your hair and everything! In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone ever do that to me. Wow, what kind of perfume are you wearing??????

To avoid that risky situation. time to wear a Taylor Swift is real country tee. That's like repellent.

And with me being a very private person, I can relate to what you are saying. These touchy, intimate actions are NOT for others to overstep their bounds, boldly entering into your private space, uninvited. Kissing, hugging, patting, and all these displays of affection, are strictly meant for our 'closest relationships.'

@DianneN I had a man I barely know, plant a slobbery wet one, right on my lips! I wanted to run to a bathroom to wash it off, with soap and water:( This was long before the pandemic.

@DianneN Right close friends are OK..but I don't like being hugged by those I don't know well..When I was mystery shopping one of the leasing agents wanted to hug me..I had to say no! at least she asked.

@snowy22315 Yes, mere acquaintances and strangers make me cringe.

Lucky you, these practices would be minimized now, become unacceptable or be totally eradicated.

I feel the same way you do. I especially hate when people think it's okay to rub a pregnant womans belly without asking.

you are a reserved person and i understand that
only that your being reserved is in different form.
Mine is this: I dont like someone calling me and discussing bla bla with me if you are not.close to me. I reserve that for family. and it.is.so.happened, my best friend is God, and.second is my husband. so none of them are close to me. but with family, i love them always.

None of what you have listed is abnormal, although this is not the case in my country, the people here are too cordial. I understand if you were talking about male-female individuals, I believe this doesn't count for friends and female individuals.

I am a hugger but I respect that not everyone likes it so I am very careful to assess my target before going in for a hug. I have had no experience with the hair touching but I wouldn't like it either. As far as clothes touching, even though I am in the clothes business, I never touch other people's clothing but they are welcome to touch mine if they are considering buying.

I love how you assess your targets! .
Oooo! What kind of clothes business are you in? I bought a beautiful Canadian made gown here for a fancy wedding in Florida. I wore it on a cruise afterwards on New Year’s Eve. I also shopped a bit in Toronto.

Oh, no! And I'm a hugger. My first instinct upon meeting you for the first time would be to hug you. I'll have to remember that! :-(
