Raining

I need to get a better camera!! In the 3rd picture on the top it was so dark I had to put the light on!! On the 'bottom' section the sun was as bright as could be! ARGH!! You can basically see the difference between that picture and the one on the left of the after trio. In any case, it started pouring at 2 PM and came down in a heavy curtain of rain! I would say 2-3 inches in about a half-hour. It is now 4 PM and except for puddles you would never know it even rained!! (See the last picture on the right bottom of both sections.) I remember 'the good old days' when it would rain at 4 every afternoon and you wouldn't know it rained by 6 PM. We used to joke it was to get the tourists off the beach so they could go back to their hotel room, take a shower, a nap and then go out for dinner! In the 70s and 80s it wouldn't rain until about 2 PM so you knew you had to get everything done by Noon or in the evening. Climate change? Now we never know when it is going to rain though we very seldom have an all-day rain unless it is a hurricane and we have only had 1 in the past decade. I don't know why but whether it is rain or a hurricane Miami always gets more and it is worse than here in Fort Lauderdale! Welcome to the rainy season in Florida!

I too love the rain. Particularly when it rains after a long time. The smell of the soil feels so good and makes us to enjoy the rain and our surroundings.

The weather pattern has become so unpredictable. Augusts used to be the wettest. Now Septembers sometimes qualify for that tag. Today it became dark and rained for some 30/40 minutes. It is cool and pleasant, much better than the near 45 C just a couple of days back. However, we also know that warmer weather would come back, and perhaps with higher humidity. But at least it might not climb to 45 C. if still it does, the chances of rain would be higher.

@GreatMartin Yes, and somehow it becomes a bit tougher to maintain good health in hot and humid weather.

@GreatMartin Well smoking and drinking should be done in moderation or avoided.

The more rain the more humidity during warm weather!

be careful with that get a better camera thingy. That can and does get expensive very quickly. And most point and shoot cameras have a difficult time in darker conditions. (Rainy weather counts as darker conditions.) But if you are talking SLR cameras, then you can control how much light, the problem here becomes expense. The cost of the camera would buy a couple of point and shoots, then you have to add the lenses. They can cost more than the camera base. But you probably know all of that. I have a Nikon SLR, and I am always fighting to get the right amount of light on cloudy days, Here in Oregon, I think we have a special deal with the gods in charge of the clouds, they bless us with so many days where the sky is all mucked up.

Yes, I have invested the prices of a better camera--I would rather buy a car!!!

@GreatMartin I can't argue that point. A good car is a bit more important than a camera.

Interesting about clockwork rain - I don't think I've ever experienced that! All I know is it used to rain more here in Southern CA . . . not so much anymore (though we got some yesterday). Weather is just so strange these days!

@GreatMartin Yep - wild fires, then mudslides after the rain, and fun earthquakes here and there . . . that's us! Ah, my mother in law now lives in Laguna Niguel . . . that whole area has totally developed since the 50s!

@much2say I went back to Laguna Beach in 1976 for a weekend visit--the Hawaiian Village restaurant was gone--the Laguna Beach hotel completely changed and even back then then the hills and mountains were spouting houses!!

My sister-in-law and niece and nephews live in Southern California and all I read about is fires, mudslides, earthquakes, etc. When I lived out in Laguna Beach in the 1950s I don't remember (or conveniently forgotten) any of that!!!
