Can I get you a drink?

I showed a photo of the lounge of a previous home we lived in. It also had a bar in the corner. The previous owner missed the English bars he’d had ‘back home’ and decided to incorporate one when he added a huge lounge to the rear of the house. It was another thing that attracted us to the place. The walls were lined with mirrors which showed off all the glassware and there was a padded piece across the front to lean on. On the left of the photo, an archway opens into the dining room. We wanted something similar in this house when we built it but ours has turned out much more open and lighter. The jarrah bar-stools in the photo were made by my father.

We were blown away at the time. Bars weren't very common back then other than just a counter across a corner.

@JudyEv My daughter put a bar in the kitchen area, next to their dining room. It was a gift, for Christian! There's a little fridge behind, sitting in a corner for cold drinks.

Wonderful that you have a keepsake from your dad with the bar stools. My Dad always had a bar in his homes until he got older.

We have one in this house. It holds all our glasses and a fridge. Mostly we only run the fridge if we're expecting a lot of guests but we've run doing the pandemic and been grateful for the extra cold storage it's given us.

Yes! Oh, can you make an extra dry, straight up martini, shaken, not stirred? Nice bar! We had one built in our other house. The one we have now is smaller, but well stocked.

We only run the bar fridge (which is full size) if we're expecting a crowd but it's been useful during the pandemic.

@JudyEv What a lovely photo! It actually triggered a little memory from when I was little. I don't know if it was a friend of the family or an actual family member but I just remember there was a bar similar to the one in your photo and it had a pool table and apparently I stood on the pool table dancing. I was like 4 or 5 years old. Don't even know if I was here or in Sydney. Anyway! Sorry lol just reminded me. I love that bar as well as the bar stools! So nicely made by your dad.

@JudyEv I honestly don't remember the dancing part. I was little. I THINK there is a photo of me standing / dancing on it but not totally sure about that. I'd love to see your pool table if you do write about it.
