Coronavirus- Grocery Prices

I've decided to begin to shop for food on my own after using Insta-Cart. The service was very helpful at the outset of the crisis, but after paying for the wrong sized items/brands and spending quite a bit on delivery tips it became too much for me.
One thing I have noticed since returning to grocery shopping is increased prices on some items, obviously a result of the coronavirus disrupting the food supply chain, which causes more demand among shoppers.
I've noticed a significant price increase in meat, poultry, fish and bakery products. Have you noticed similar price increases on these products in your stores?
Or any other items that you buy?
The Coronavirus has definitely impacted us in so many ways.

Yes, that's how you will notice for sure.
The labor force have been unable to work leading to an inability to farm and deliver enough food to stores to meet the needs of shoppers. This increases prices.

@dgobucks226 Yes, it does. Fortunately, we need to eat. Unfortunately, the prices are going up because the food can't get to the stores in a timely fashion. Hopefully, as the country opens, we'll see prices coming back down.

Your lucky. This virus has caused the closing of all the restaurants making people stock up on food supplies a problem which limits food products and causes price to rise.

@LowRiderX Yes, I couldn't agree more. There will always be certain businesses who take advantage of the situation to make money.

@dgobucks226 Amazing how the opportunity is used, just looking at how to make money, I would punish those stores. We have had such a case with masks, disinfectants, etc. Those pharmacies were reported, it was even written in the newspapers. And of course, basic foodstuffs too

I initially wanted to have stuff delivered, but after hearing about how overwhelmed these services were and deliveries were very late (or even flat out cancelled), I've just been food hunting myself - and still. I don't doubt that prices are going up, but it's not too huge - well, yet, but I don't doubt that it could eventually be significant.

@dgobucks226 Yes, I heard that too. I know it's easier to have stuff delivered - but I realize it has to cost more - someone is doing that service for you and taking a risk especially during this time. But I still rather go out myself . . . I do it faster and get exactly what I want.

I even heard some take out food places were adding a surcharge on orders which caused many an irate customer to complain. We've had delivery times changed on food deliveries. It is definitely overwhelming.

I haven’t noticed a tremendous uptick in prices, but I’m sure it’s there, given that there’s a lot of added costs in groceries now (having to clean things all the time, the plexiglass installations, diminished hours, etc.), and we all know that businesses don’t “eat” those costs, they pass ‘em on!

Exactly right! Excellent points. I've even heard some take out food places were adding a surcharge on orders which drew many irate customers. Not the best way to pass on costs...

Since the pandemic started my mom used, and still uses I think, both InstaCart and Shipt. She had to pay $99 annual membership to use Shipt. That is just crazy. And I think InstaCart charged her $9.99 to use it and more than once. Whenever she ordered stuff she didn't get everything she ordered (I guess because they were out of those items) and some items were replaced by something else that was more expensive. She ended up spending more money in my opinion using these these services than she would've spent had she gone to the store. But for safety she didn't wanna go to the stores. I guess better safe than sorry.

Your comments are right on! I experienced all the same things with using those services. Inconveniences we must tolerate to stay safe.

I started to going to this one grocery store but it was so expensive so I will go back to another closer to home. The grocery store where I have been going was always expensive. I do not like it but there were things i could get that I cannot get at others. I will have to try another one that is cheaper.

Yes, Hanni higher prices are a problem. Stores are raising prices to cover their additional costs for sanitizing their stores.
