Don't knock someone else's hustle

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I last posted anything on here. The world's been pretty crazy lately. I wish that mylot had a mobile app. It would make things a lot easier. But, I hope that everyone is safe and healthy!
So, lately I've been thinking about jobs. A few months ago, I started working at a local convenience store that had posted a "Help Wanted" sign. I was a "regular" at this store. They had almost everything that I needed, hence the word 'convenience', so I figured that I'd lend a helping hand. Anyways, an old friend of mine came in to the store a few days ago and said to me "I worked here a long time ago. Back when I was about 17." and kind of chuckled. It honestly made me feel low, as if he was above me.
The reason why I am typing this is because I felt pretty insecure after that incident. I came to realize how terrible I felt... and don't get me wrong, I'm not innocent, because I've probably made others feel the same way in the past.
I thought about this topic for a few days, then I started thinking more positively. The reason why I work at this store is because I remembered working at a convenience store when I was 16 years old to 18 years old. It was my favourite job. I had a lot of fun, and I enjoyed helping customers and getting to know them.
Last year, I was hired at a dental office. It was a horrible experience. I would start work at 5PM and end at 7am the next day. It was as if I had no days off because I wasn't able to sleep right away after work. Sometimes I wouldn't fall asleep until about 3PM. Then I had work again the next day. To top everything off... I had a coworker that was harassing me (but that's a story for another day). After I left my job at the dental office, I was hired at an optical clinic. I thought that I had found my calling. It seemed great at first, until my manager (whom by the way was working from a different country) told me that she wasn't able to pay me until "Employment Officials" approve my paycheck. I took screenshot pictures of the Employment laws in my country and emailed them all to her. I suppose she got scared, and sent me an e-transfer, without saying a word to me. Horrible and unprofessional, right?
So, I've been at the convenience store for about 3 months now. It's not too bad. It's a lot of work (more than my past convenience store job). But, I enjoy it. My boss and coworkers are all great people. It's been a while since I've been happy at a workplace, so this is nice. I don't even mind that I'm getting paid way less than the previous 2 jobs.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't knock someone else's hustle. Maybe they're happy with their job. Maybe it's what they want to do. From now on, I'll be proud of my friends and family with their employment choices, as long as it's not damaging their health (mentally and physically).

Not really lucky. Where I live, those who were laid off are receiving $2000 every 2 weeks from the government. That's about 3 or 4 times more than what I make. And on top of that.. I'm putting myself at risk. We have about 500 or more customers each day. But I understand what you mean. I'm not ungrateful at all. And I feel for those that are struggling.

@askme123 Yeah, I guess it's also a matter of choice. The store that I work at had a "Help Wanted" sign up for almost 3 months. No one wanted to apply. Anyone could've easily gotten a job there. I'm glad that I applied

People should respect each other's choices. You're happy with what you're doing now and that's important to you.
