Reminded me of someone special who is very dear to me, my father. I love the strong sweet scent of lilac. When I was walking with my friend in the woods last week, I came across those beautiful white color flowers. They were looking like the violet flowers in the yard of my friend. One of the vacation houses we passed by, have this flowering shrub in the yard. I couldn´t resist the beauty that I had to stop and enjoyed the fragrant of this flower. I kept on breathing the strong sweet scent of this flower. It reminded me of the Fortune flowers I had in my yard in the Philippines. The smell of this plant reminded me of this flower as my father hated the strong smell of the flower we had at home. Once, I harvested the flowers and put them on my bedroom vase and left them for 2 hours. When I returned to my room to sleep, the scent of my room was heavenly. My father said that my room stunk but it was not for me. After the burial of my father 2 years ago, I was in the boarding room at the airport. Nobody was near me sitting. I was alone going back to Germany. Then I suddenly smelt the sweet scent of the flowers he hated. I was looking around to see who was wearing that perfume. No one was there. It broke my heart because suddenly I thought it was him saying goodbye to me at the airport. The fragrance of the lilac flowers here in Germany smells like the Fortune flowers in the Philippines. Do you have a favorite flower who reminded you of someone you had? Thanks for reading. Have a nice day.

Yes, I assumed that because I really felt sad going back to Germany and it was the first time he didn't accompanied me to the airport @ridingbet. After a year I came back to distribute his things to my siblings, me and my sisters smelt the fragrance of that fortune flowers in the gate when my sisters were about to go home. I assumed he was there happy seeing his kids together again.

Lilac coloured lilacs remind me of my Gramma, she had some nice big lilac shrubs and she would ask me to go out and cut some for her to bring in for the table. She also loved peonies, and the smell of them brings her to my mind. My Gramma loved flowers and taught me so much about them.

@thelme55 Thank you. My Gramma was such a sweet and generous person. I learned how to make lump-free gravy from her when I was young, how to peel and slice an apple, and so many other things. I remember the day that I went into her home to check on her as I had to drive her to her hair appointment, and she was lying in her bed. My heart broke seeing her lie there so still and lifeless, and then having to get my Dad so that he could tend to things.

@thelme55 Yes, she passed away in her sleep-the way most of us would love to go. And she deserved a quiet and restful passing as she was always doing for others.

Your grandma sounds a wonderful woman @Juliaacv. My grandma reminded me about herbs as I saw her always gathered herbs from the fields nearby. She was a herbalist.

I'm sure it was your father letting you know he was there. There was a certain body splash that my Mom used to use when she took a bath. You could always smell it through the house. There have been several times when I have been alone at home and I have smelled that scent. I knew it was my Mom visiting me.

Yes, I am sure of that that it was my father @simone10. I am glad I am not alone who believe in this kind of spiritual encounter through scent. Thank you.

My father had two huge purple lilac bushes in his yard. We have one here, and when it blooms I think of him. He gave use purple irises from his garden, and them bloomed beautifully for me this year.

Purple lilac bushes are beautiful though you can only smell the scent when you smell the flowers directly to your nose. I am glad this flower reminded you of your father.

Lilacs especially make me think of my grandparents. They had lilacs growing by their house and I remember how wonderful they smelled.
