I've been looking for a good chocolate chip for ages too - we don't have such a wide variety in South Africa :(
But I will try crushing Hersheys - that sounds really yummy!

I think they are nestle tollhouse...those are good..or you could also get hershey bars and crush them into chip-sized pieces

I would say semi-sweet chocolate chips, usually any brand will do fine
