Ooh, what nice weather!!! It’s a simply gorgeous day, and I’m going to enjoy it!! Before I do (and while I’m having lunch) I’ll let you enjoy another favorite of mine from the great Billy Joel. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and he’s not always my cup of tea, but what a great career! Thanks to @DianneN for the suggestion. Here’s today’s song.
#4: Scenes From an Italian Restaurant
Back when Billy Joel had his DUI I would sing this as, “A bottle of red, a bottle of white, and pray that Billy Joel don’t drive tonight.”
This song inspired a forthcoming series about songs that don’t have the title of the song in the song. But that’s for later. As for now, one of Joel’s classics. This is one of those “bathroom break” songs (over seven and a half minutes long) with three parts. The opening (and closing) sets the scene in the restaurant. The second part is a conversation between two people who hadn’t seen each other in a long time (“lost touch long ago”).
The “main part” of the song is the story of Brenda and Eddie. Nothing explains why this subject comes up (did Brenda or Eddie walk in or past the “table near the street”?), but it does.
And wow, when the subject does come up!!!
Enjoy this great classic, and don’t forget to wave Brenda and Eddie goodbye!

Hearing that song I can see myself with my siblings at our favorite Italian restaurant. With a little vino of course, and a terrific pasta dish, yum...
