I always wondered about the meaning of the Biblical lentils.

Today I had lentils. In the morning they were normally delicious. But for dinner I added some diced fried ham and bacon and they were out of this world.
So I went to the internet to learn why was it that Esau had lost the right of being the first son just for eating a dish of lentils.
And the explanation they gave was interesting as he changed an spiritual right (his birthright) for a material one.
So I add now that we have the internet other knowledge while I eat.
Today I checked the deep freezer too to see if I would have space for the meat I will receive on Tuesday.
Later I will eat a smoothie. But it will be in 2 more hours. See you later.

I was not aware they were lentils as the translations we have say pottage, which just means a soup. They are delicious, I have seen vegetarian dishes made from them you would have thought were meat. Esau also went for immediate gratification for his material desire rather than a delayed gratification of his birthright.

I will copy part of what I read today although in my native language and religion I have always heard they were a pottage made of lentils." Lentils (Heb. adashim), a leguminous plant bearing seeds resembling small beans. The red pottage which Jacob prepared and for which Esau sold his birthright was made from them. (Genesis 25:34)"

I love lentils, but with bacon&ham they were probably even more tasty. Esau gave up his birth right to Jacob, because he so so darn hungry!

It's good that you remind us that sometimes we should correlate the things we eat to the spiritual meaning of what the Bible says.
