Have you heard of Lhakpa Sherpa?

I’ve just commented on a post by JimB o (@JimBo452020). You can read it here: https://www.mylot.com/post/3372706/another-plant-unknown. JimB o calls his clematis bush Edmund Hilary as it is a climber. I suggested it was too beautiful to be an Edmund Hilary but should be renamed Lhakpa Sherpa. She has climbed Mt Everest nine times, the most of any women. I first read about her when we were in Nepal. Lhakpa Sherpa was born in Nepal, one of eleven children, but now lives in Connecticut. She wasn’t allowed to attend school and now earns a modest living cleaning and/or dish-washing. Women were once discouraged from climbing. In 2015, she reached the summit with her brother and 15-year-old sister. She saves hard each year so she fly back to Nepal to attempt another ascent. Photo is one Vince took of Mt Everest from a plane. Mt Everest is the pointy bit.

Beautiful photo! I'm glad that Lhakpa Sherpa was able to fulfill her dreams of climbing Mt. Everest! It's quite an accomplishment to say that you have climbed the mountain once; to say it is nothing less than spectacular that she did it nine times is an understatement!

@JudyEv And I'm sure it doesn't get any easier for them, no matter how many times they've been to the summit.

@moffittjc That's so true. You'd probably just become more aware of the dangers.

There are a couple of guides who have done it something like 20 times. They must be devils for punishment.

What a wonderful story! I am glad Lhakpa Sherpa has shown to the world included her fellow countrymen that women can also climb the mountains.

So far, she has done it all with very little financial help.

Congratulations to Vince, this is a beautiful photo. You are so right that the flower should be renamed Lhakpa Sherpa, she deserves to be remembered.

@JudyEv It is hard to pay for climbing without a sponsor.

I think she might have a sponsor now but she has done most of her climbs without financial help.

Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, it was a fascinating story. Even now it is so dangerous to climb the peak of Mt. Everest.

I'm sure her story would be very readable. Her husband assaulted her on one climb and knocked her out.

I knew I heard the name before and recently in connection with Mt. Everest. It would be a good name for his plant. She was an amazing woman.
