Weren't you expecting it to happen? : Profiting off of George Floyd

Was scrolling through facebook yesterday when I came across a post from one of the buy/sell groups I rarely peruse anymore. Well, someone was trying to profit off the man's death by selling "I can't breathe" t-shirts and masks.
Not that this person is the first, nor will they be the last to do so. A lot of people were slamming the person in the comment section, telling them how despicable they were. Personally? I just reported it. Maybe it won't be taken down, who knows, but atleast the admins of the group will be there to make a decision.
Lots of news clips have people who have written that on their facemasks, and that is all fine and good. It's making a statement, but for a person to make these for the purpose of profiting off of them? Despicable!
What say you?

Well if it helps promote the cause it isn't bad. There is more than one way to look at it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum They may have mixed motives..maybe they are, but maybe they want people to wear the shirts as a silent protest of sorts. It doesn't upset me, because I am not in their heads. We can not be sure what they think and feel.

@snowy22315 Right, I get what your saying and I appreciate it, but I'm still under the belief that if they wanted to do something like that they wouldn't be charging at all.

I don't think so, at least not in this case. I could understand if the seller said "all profits from the sell of this shirt and mask will go to the family, or to such and such cause.. No, this person is simply trying to profit off of it.

It is like the man who bought crates and crates full of hand sanitizer for the purpose of selling them for a profit. He was caught and forced to stop selling them. He wasn't even sorry for dong it either.

@thelme55 That doesn't surprise me, what he did was wrong.

It would only really be acceptable if all monies they raised were to go to charity or the family, and even then it's not really acceptable. Some people ...

I agree. They said nothing about donating the money to a charity. It makes me think of the man who bought cases upon cases of hand sanitizer and lysol wipes with the expectation of selling them at a higher profit. He was caught out, and forced to desist.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That did make me laugh. How he thought he'd get away with that is beyond me!

It's not a new thing, people have profited off of other's tragedies for a long time.

I agree with you. Its not like whatever profits to be made from selling those items will be donated to the family of George Floyd.
This was done for pure profit plain and simple and under these circumstances, this is despicable.

Right, profiting off of tragedies is nothing new, sadly.
