A cool picture from my hike the other day.

I mentioned that my friend and I took a walk along the bike path the other day. We kept it slow and took a few pictures as we hiked. One of my favorites was this shot we took of a flowering "prickly pear" cactus.
I learned years ago, the hard way, that you DO NOT TOUCH these things even if you think you're touching a smooth part. But people who know what they're doing can actually skin them and cook them up.
Have you gotten any nice walks in recently? It started raining literally as soon as we got home, so our timing was perfect.

@TheHorse Not today. They were being snobs. I think someone told them we are supposed to social distance. They followed me but didnt want attention

@wolfgirl569 Is there grass out there? Or do they have to be happy with their morning and evening flakes?

That's pretty! But I won't risk touching it either.

I am interested with the prickly pear, not with the flower but with the fruit.

@TheHorse I've been through one round already, the standard restrengthen, get the flex back that sort of thing. I am about to start a second round to work on the bursa and tendons in the lower left (my left) portion of the right knee. The Doc seems to think that the tendons have shrunk a bit due to the length of time I was dealing with the injury and need to be doing things to stretch it out. My gait has absolutely changed and things are just not jumping on the bandwagon of getting back to normal. I am willing to do whatever to get to a point of no pain. I am grateful for the decision to go ahead with the replacement. I am better able to get around now and am doing things I have not been able to do for several years. Just keep getting the annoying pains.

@TheHorse The prickly pears are sold in Italy ONLY already peeled, they all come from Sicily, the only place where they grow in large quantities. We usually eat them raw, they are sweet and fresh. I also like to prepare a jam. In Italy we call them "fichi d'India" (Indian figs), the name derives surely from the fact that Columbus was the one who brought those fruits back to Italy, but he thought he had landed in India, that is the reason of the name.

That's a really pretty flower for such an awful plant. The prickly pear is a huge pest in Australia. It was introduced to provide something for coddling moth (I think) to eat instead of eating the cotton crops. Now it's a massive problem.

Love the picture. Unfortunately I can't walk more than about 50 feet at a time. Glad you enjoyed your walk.

@TheHorse When I need to. My spine makes it very difficult for me to walk.

@TheHorse you have to be consistent. Will you learn to cook it or not?

That is a great photo.
Yes, we have been able to continue our walks in the woods here. However, we are still be asked to limit our visits to places with crowds and wear a mask.

That pear is beautiful! Lately it's been cold here one day and hot the next.
