That's about the time I said forget this

I want to say that I started about 11 AM or Noon yesterday.
Crocheting, that is.
Finger Crocheting, if we're being specific.
I didn't follow the pattern / tutorial video exactly. The lady made a chain of 30 stitches. Mine was more like 50. She used both her thumb and finger to widen the stitch, I just used my index finger.
My yarn, while being the same type, was a bonus bundle so it had more yardage.
I made a few mistakes, but I fixed them. One or two skeins gave me trouble so I had to cut, untangle, refasten and continue. Towards the end one skein kept doubling up (I used the strand in the middle of the ball because it's the path of least resistance) and so I just worked the doubled up yarn into the last few stitches and fastened off.
Hence the title of the discussion "That's about the time I said forget this."
I weaved in my ends, and I have a lapghan and a "stash" of yarn.
Oh, and the video said it would take one hour. I figured that wasn't quite right, but I also figured it would take around 2 hours. Nope I worked all day yesterday and part of this morning on it.
What do ya think?

I think you did an amazing job and I love the color. I really have to find time to watch one of those finger crocheting videos

I'll link you to the tutorial I based my blanket off of.
I did not like the way she made the chains. It just felt wrong, and I tried to do it her way but I couldn't wrap my head around it.
It also felt awkward trying to single crochet the way she did, so I made tighter stitches.
No hook required! Crochet this baby up in no time. I've been carrying mine around the house from room to room. I'll definitely be making another one soon :) ...

@marlina Your welcome. This is her second iteration, she made another video a few years ago with the same pattern.

@LindaOHio Well, I just finished it up and left it as a lapghan. I may go back later and put a border around it, but I might not.

I really should not have worked on it for as long as I did yesterday. Today I worked on it for twenty minutes at a time and then took a five minute break inbetween.
I would have kept going, but I got frustrated with the knotted up skein, and said "forget it!"

Yes, this is just the single crochet stitch. I think the next one I make, I'll use the double crochet stitch. Then once I get confident in both of those stitches, I'll work my way up.
I was just glad that I knew how to fix my errors.

@m_audrey6788 Thank You. I'm giving my fingers a rest now. Yesterday I crocheted for far too long, and my hands and wrist were aching all through the night.

Well, I worked a lot on this, but that was all I got done. I am having to play catch up today.

Thank You. The ends are not completely even, but that is okay. It is a very warm blanket, and I will probably wrap it around my shoulders in the winter.

@thelme55 Yes, and I am under the impression that our winter will be colder than it has been.

That finger technique still amazes me . . . you did it so evenly ! How big will it ultimately be? I take a lot of breaks with various projects (more because other stuff has to get done - I wish I had a big chunk of time to dedicate to one thing) - so projects take way longer than intended.

It's just a lapghan. I haven't measured it nor did I count the rows, but it basically covers me from my waist to my feet.
I feel like I have better control with my fingers as opposed to a crochet hook. When I've used a hook, well I've gone a little crazy. I also feel like I see the stitches better with my fingers. When I was using a hook before, I kept doing slip stitches instead of single crochets.. Well, that was also years ago too.
There's a video I've seen on doing a pillow case as well. It's just single crochet with single crochet to bind off.

I think it's beautiful and you did this with only your fingers? Wow, I love it!

Yes, and just a single crochet stitch. I really over did it yesterday though, and suffered last night with aching hands and wrists. Never doing that again.

@Carmelanirel2 To be honest, I'm impressed myself. Eventually I would like to try using a crochet hook again, but for now I just want to get used to the stitches again, and learn some I never have.

Many years ago I went to my mom and asked her to teach me to crochet, but her hands were too unstable, so I asked my aunt. My aunt could only remember a few stitches, but she taught them to me. I lost interest when I found that my tension was always off.
I used my fingers for this project, and a heavier weighted yarn, this helped with my tension. The ends of my blanket on either side are slightly wonky, but it's also evenly matched so I am not bothered by it.

@LadyDuck I've seen some little videos and documentaries about how schools differ across the world. It always interests me to see what are done in other schools. In schools in Japan, the food they are given is healthy, and they eat the food at their desks.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I learned to crochet when I was a very little girl in school, we learned that in girls schools in Italy.

Thank You! I definitely will.
I spent too much time not trying, but then I learned that you could use your finger instead of a crochet hook, and that is what I want to get better at.
