To Gray or not to Gray

To Gray or not to gray, is the question on my mind right now.
I have been struggling within myself trying to decide if I want to start the fight of not turning gray. I have a few popping up now, on the sides and top. They are getting noticeable to the point where my husband said, you may need to color your hair.
I told him I am considering....... not, he is fine with that, was just letting me know that they are noticeable.
If I start, it is one more thing on my list of "to do's" that quite honestly, is really long.
I have super thin hair, I have seen what years and years of coloring do to thin hair, because my mother colors her hair and has for many years.
I thought about the shampoos, but not really sure about those either as far as being harmful. I guess it would not be time consuming though since I already have to shampoo my hair, that may be a bonus.
I am a easy going gal, so not really sure I would mind being gray at least until somebody calls me the grandma of one of my kids. That could sting a bit.
so, thoughts, opinions, experiences?
Everyone Have a beautiful day!

@mom210 My husband's hair-dresser gave Vince a very light rinse (without his knowledge but they were good friends) to cover a few grey hairs. No-one noticed but once it wore off everyone started saying how grey he was getting. lol

That's a very personal question. To be honest, I prefer anything but gray hair. I have seen young women who went naturally white, and they looked good to me. Steel gray gives me pause.
I like being blonde and looking young, and my husband loves it, too.
Good luck and please yourself.

I honestly adore grey hair, I think it is beautiful. I started getting grey hairs when I was 12 years old due to stress and I enjoy it. I am still an auburn color which I also adore but I love the sparkles that come through with it. I wish people would stop stigmatizing grey hair with being old, because grey hair happens with so many different things and also there are big groups of people that start greying at 20 years old and they have nothing wrong with them it is just what their hair does. so if you want to dye, go for it, it is your hair and you can do whatever you want with it but don't do it because you are afraid of people will say if you don't do it, who cares what people say. I always say, do whatever makes you comfortable with your body, but don't do it for the sake of vanity.

Personally, I prefer no color and I would not dream of dying my own hair. My wife occasionally did color her hair in years past, especially when she still worked. She has not in the past year. I feel that the grey is a sign of experience and of life. And I like the look.

My dad's wife decided to finally go gray after the quarantine lifted. Her roots had started to show so she decided to go natural. But you just have a few? I'd stay natural right now, especially if you already have thinning hair. My sister has a few gray hairs, and I thought it looked kind of frosted, which is still popular to do.

Have you done any research on why some are gray at an earlier age than others? It is very interesting. Won't get into the details but will say for sure the info about possible reasons is online!
We have a female friend using a hair coloring product made for men and she said it is the best thing she has used.

I think for my family it is genetic my great grandmother was gray at 25, my mother has colored her hair for as long s I can remember and refuses to go gray no matter how thin her hair gets, and it is getting really really thin. My older sons ages, 27, 26, 23, & 20 all have receding hair lines. The 23 year old, for some reason, has it worse than the others and has had it since 18. He is actually balding on to very noticeably. Poor fellow. I have seen the shampoo for men, I have a friend that uses it, it is very dark in back and lighter in front. I keep telling him that and he thinks his hair is all the same. It is obvious to me he colors. I do not want to be that way. If I color I want it to be my secret.

@mom210 I had the feeling to "look older" when I dyed my hair. I know that I do not look my age simply because when I ask for the senior discount (senior is 65 here) I am always asked to check my ID because they think I have not yet the right to get it (I am almost 70).

I think my husband will be fine with it too, he just knows I do not want to look old. I do not tell anybody my age or when I graduated for fear they will calculate. I have considered adding ten years to my age so they can tell me how great I look though

I didn't want to dye my hair because I want to go natural. But one morning when I saw the old man in the mirror staring at me, that changed my stance. I don't want to look old because it will make me feel old.

@mom210 my case is psychological but nothing's wrong in dyeing the hair.

I waited until I had my kids before coloring. That may have been when I was in my forties or thereabouts. I began turning grey when I was twenty six but wasn't too concerned about it then for similar reasons to yours.
I quit coloring it when I got in my fifties or so and discovered I actually looked younger and better with it natural and I've found that to be true for most women.

@mom210 I was afraid to go natural because I didn't know how even the grey would be but it was better than I expected.

My mom said she would never dye her hair . . . so I followed. I've never tried to dye my grays . . . and now it's just there . . . maybe 1/4 gray, the rest blackish. I never have to worry about "roots" or worry about dye chemicals in my hair. The best thing I did was find the right hair cut for it - an asymmetrical bob - I get compliments from strangers all the time - one thought my "bold" look of au natural was "hip" .

I think you should do whatever makes you comfortable. After all, it is your hair.
I really don't understand why people cover up gray hair. Of course, it is different for men than it is for women. My sideburns went gray years ago. I do have a gray streak above my right eye, but don't really care... it's just there.

Mines mostly gray/white now and it doesn't bother me at all. Supposed to be a sign of wisdom though I sometimes question that. For me coloring is a waste of money and time and with the bags under my eyes it aint gonna fool anyone anyway. lol
