The lost is now found

We have been missing a big, white, plastic basin. Vin uses it when he washes the car. He half-fills it with warm, soapy water then dips the broom in it and washes the car with the broom. But we haven’t been able to find it for ages. I’ve looked everywhere I could think of as I’m usually the one who repurposes things or rearranges storage but it seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Today, I was looking down the paddock where we have several containers of water put out for the kangaroos to drink from. I couldn’t work out what was so white then it suddenly hit me. In the summer, we thought the ‘roos would appreciate more watering points and, because the basin was cheap, we put it down the paddock and filled it with water. Now that we’ve found it we had both forgotten agreeing to give it to the roos. I knew it had to be somewhere and now the lost is found as they say. Another mystery solved. lol The photo shows a joey practising his hops. The white basin is now in place next to the blue basin which you can see in the top right-hand corner of the photo.

This made me smile. I've done things like this and then, forgot all about it! I'm the one that throws something away, then realize that it wasn't junk after all

@JudyEv I do that a lot of times. Sometimes I have accidentally found where I put something. Once found it made sense.

Exactly. Something was niggling in the back of my mind but it didn't help at the time. :)

In most of Australia, providing water is more important than providing food.

How long does it take the joeys to learn how to use their tail to help them balance and kick and such?

I don't really know. They're a bit wobbly when they first start coming out of the pouch and they only stay out a few minutes at time. This one isn't balancing on his tail although it looks a bit that way.

That was nice to let the kangaroos have a place to drink. It's a good feeling to know it wasn't stolen? Now found and reused differently.

In Australia, kangaroos sometimes have more trouble finding water than food.

@oahuwriter In some areas, kangaroos have been fenced out of farmlands and there is very little surface water in the bush so they often look for water.

@JudyEv , That is really a good news! May be because of less density of the population the Spread of the Covid 19 might have got checked effectively!

Almost all our restrictions have been lifted now. Our borders to the east are still closed. We have been very lucky really.

Pretty and I have done something very similar, Judy... although we didn't use the basin to give water to kangaroos. We had ours at the back of the yard, behind a little stand of trees. When we put it back there we had found some frog eggs that were laid in a mud puddle that was drying out. Once the froggies finished using the basin we forgot to retrieve it.

@JudyEv Not sure how accurate it is, but I only have Crocodile Dundee and that Irwin guy to compare. It would help if you'd throw in "mate" or some other familiar Australian manner of speech sometimes. Thanks. I try the Irish accent with Fiacre and a Scottish accent with JimbO, but still working on them.

Thank you for caring about wildlife. I put out bird feeders for the same reason. We have plenty of water here, and food too, but I like to have the birds visit so I give them seeds and I have a chew thing for the squirrels. Nothing else usually shows up in the yard, (at least nothing I see) Oh, wait, there was an opossum who wanted to nest beneath my lawnmower two years ago. I didn't know it was there until I pulled the mower out of the storeroom and rolled it out of its bed. I haven't seen it since, And no, I had not tried to start the mower with him under it (thank goodness)
