How's this for a dessert?

We had crumbed (breaded) chicken for tea and a new dessert. I promised some myLotters I’d post a photo of it if I didn’t forget. Well, I didn’t forget and here is the photo. The recipe was in the Reader’s Digest and seemed very easy which it was. It was called a Tres Leches cake. I thought the term was French but googling revealed it to have, probably, originated in Central America. Tres Leches means ‘three milks’ and the dessert is traditional throughout Latin America. A sponge is soaked in a mix of condensed milk, evaporated milk and full cream milk (or cream). It is then topped with whipped cream and berries. It was delicious but very rich. We bought a double sponge and have one left which we’ll use for another tres leches dessert on Monday when three other guests arrive for two nights. I’m looking forward to both seeing the guests and to having more dessert.

Your dessert looks really good. Tres Leches is a popular dessert here what with so many latinos living here.

Some here claim it originated in Mexico but who really knows, @JudyEv They lay claim to flan as well but that dish originated in France known as creme brulee

I have no idea of that dessert but with condensed milk I'm sure I would like it.

It's very sweet but was better once the berries were added.

@JudyEv sometimes we eat strawberries with condensed milk. But what I like in condensed milk is when it is baked, it becomes nougat.

@Alexandoy my sister eats strawberries with chocolate spread. mother was eager to eat them fresh, but stopped when the seeds got into in her dentures. so i made them into juice but strained it before serving.

Tres Leches mean three milks in Spanish, I made that cake, there are no fruits in the original recipe.

@JudyEv I make the tres leches time by time but it is not extremely sweet. I do not soak the sponge cake in condensed milk... I have a photo here of mine. I am going to check my recipe.

@LadyDuck That looks much more professional than ours! There seems to be two different cake layers.

It looks delicious, but I suppose with all of that cream it is rich-not something I could manage very often as a result. Enjoy a bit for me on Monday night.

We thought it was too sickly sweet but somehow the berries counteracted the sweetness somewhat.

We have a wonderful Cuban restaurant near where my office is located, and I usually eat lunch there once a week or so. The food is homemade and is absolutely delicious. They have the best tasting Tres Leches dessert I have ever had. It's a wonderful dessert!

@JudyEv Well, like you said, it's a Central American/Latin American thing. Probably don't find it in too many other places around the world. That would be like asking for vegemite here. Nobody would have heard of it, because it's an Australian thing.

we dont have that cake in here. But seeing the recipe, i think it must be really delicious and sweet. But, if i want to make it, can i substitude the berries with other fruit? Like banana or apples?
