Finally ordered some sushi for dinner

Last night when hubby came home from work we decided to order some sushi. We only ordered take out once during the pandemic and it was in the beginning of it. Decided it was time to order out again. The sushi was fresh and delicious. Long overdue! The only downside was that we did not get an order of sushi but were still charged for it. It was $3. I told hubby to call the restaurant. He should't have to pay for something he didn't get. When he called and told them what happened the lady confirmed with the chef and learned that they were out of that fish and that's why we didn't get it. Why then didn't the chef say anything so that amount would be taken off the bill? The lady said next time hubby places an order he will get $3 taken off the bill. I hope she wrote it down somewhere so that will actually happen. I guess she couldn't process the refund or maybe she just didn't want to do it because they pay every time a card is swiped. Either way, I don't like the fact that we had to pay for something we didn't get.

And that is exactly why I never order takeout, or even go through the drive-thru at restaurants. It's guaranteed that they will mess up your order, forget to include everything, or overcharge you. At least when you go inside the restaurant you can see immediately whether or not you've gotten everything you ordered!

@lovebuglena You would think they could practice basic customer service skills and tell you when they are out of something!

@moffittjc I guess not everyone is like that. If I remember correctly I think hubby left them a tip, even though you are not supposed to.

I remember we were in a resort in DR and during one of our dinners at a restaurant we didn't get something we ordered. They didn't even tells us something like "sorry but we are out of this dish, can I get you something else?" They just said nothing. At least it's an all you can eat resort so no extra charge for eating at a restaurant.

Hopefully, next time we place an order she will take off $3 from the bill. Otherwise, we will never see that money.

I experienced something like that before when we ordered a pizza and they forgot to add some olives when we asked them to add but still charged us extra for that. They refund it on our next order

I don't get why they don't tell the customer they are out of something and why the still charge for it... That is not professional.

When we go to the grocery store I watch everything that is ranged up and double check before we leave. I do not want to pay for something we did not get either.

I watch when they scan but also check the receipt after I pay. Sometimes I may not catch something because they scan too fast. What I hate the most is when they see me putting stuff on the conveyor belt and start scanning before I am done putting everything out. So, I don't get to see what they are doing and definitely need to check the receipt before leaving the store.

It shouldn't happen in the first place. They should not charge the item that was not delivered. And they should give you refund after you called them as well. Just hope they remember they owed you $3.

I agree with you. Hubby wrote down on the receipt that they didn't give him those two pieces of sushi and that he should get $3 off next time... but I hope they wrote it down on their end somewhere. Aside from being charged for something he didn't get, he should have been informed about it so he can replace it with something else. At least it was only two pieces of sushi we didn't get and not much more than that. But maybe it is now a good idea to take everything out of the bag and check it before leaving the restaurant. Not sure though if they'd allow that.

@haraka Wow! That is unprofessional. Did they have cases where people got everything but just claimed they didn't receive something so they can get money back or get something for free?

@lovebuglena although it's just two pieces of sushi, as business owner they should deliver a proper services. Well, I always check our order before we get them because in here after you leave the restaurant you won't get refund if you said you don't get something.

Usually sushi is raw fish served on top of a little ball of rice. It's not really round shape but not sure what it's called. You dip it into soy sauce with some wasabi and enjoy. You eat sushi with chopsticks.

I would have demanded an instant refund right then and there. No way will she remember your order.

He did not request a refund after she told him she'd take it off on the next order. He did write down on the receipt, which we saved, that we didn't get that order of sushi and will get credit next time we place an order. Hope that will work.

Like you, I hate paying for something I didn't get. I hope she has written it down too.

Hubby worte it down on the receipt but not sure if that will work or not. Theoratically, if we never order from there again we will never see that $3. This reminds me of the time I went to another sushi place for dinner. I had a $10 off coupon. I forgot to present it when asked for the bill and only remembered after hubby had already paid. We told the server but she would not give us $10 back. She told us I could use the coupon next time I came back to eat there.
